Converting IPF files to ADF

Is there a way to convert IPF files to normal or extended ADFs? I am asking about emulation, not a real Amiga.

Is there a guide on how to use uaeunp? Can you give some information? I mean completely from scratch, for example where do I put the .exe?

UAEUNP is a commandline tool. Unpack it wherever you want and use the Start-> Execute -> CMD command for the DOS promt. Here's an example for Turrican.

Quote:
uaeunp turrican.ipf turrican.ext.adf
Now you have a fully working extended ADF for WinUAE.

What errors? Have you checked the source folder? There should be an "turrican.ext.adf" now, app. 2,11MB.

Edit: Sorry. I forgot to mention that you need the CAPSImg.dll (IPF Library). Grab it here and put in the folder with UAEUNP.

It gives me the common message box for Windows errors (the one with the option to report the error to Microsoft).

What source? I do not see such a folder. Do I need to put the .exe in Winuae?

K thanx. But the resulting extended ADF doesn't load in WinUae.

Really? I have no problem with the created extended Turrican ADF. Try an A500 Quickstart config. btw: not all copy protections are supported in an extended ADF.

Rainbow Islands, which I used for the first try, failed. Apidya which I just used, succeded (though I didn't play it more than just starting it). I am now trying another one to see what happens.

I tried Project-X and it loaded up to the point of the last screen before the action starts. Then it crashed.

Apidya started normally.

What games have you converted successfully so far?

tbh: I haven't tried many games. Turrican, Apidya and 2-3 i can't remember. Some games need to be cracked, Rob Norton's copylock stuff e.g.

So it seems to bypass some protections but not all.

I guess that sums it up. Hundreds will probably work fine. But bypass is not the correct word, it keeps some protections 100% intact.

I doubt Turrican would work 100% as whilst extended ADF might be able to preserve the MFM format of the disk, Turrican also has a protection track which 'shouldnt' be able to be copied.

Project X won't work because it uses Copylock as Retro stated.

But there are lots of games out there that simply rely on their disk format as copy protection, so an extended ADF will work in lots of cases.

Best thing to do is to goto www.whdload.de and look at the notes by whoever installed a game you want to copy, as invariably the person will say what protection was encountered.

Yeap, thats exactly what I wanted. I will try it on all my 28 games and post the results here.

Sadly, 6 of my games have been lost because of disk corruption, one of them recovered however from the IPFs Team17 released (Alien Breed Special Edition 92).

Extended adf can support everything except any kind of bit cell density tricks.

uaeunp conversions are not meant to be perfect, especially when attempting to convert copy protected disk. It is extraction tool, not a conversion tool

So, is there a better tool to perform the conversion?
