SFS + WinUAE + A1200 issues

Hi there people,

I have just followed the excellent killergorilla wiki on how to install SFS.

I have a 4.3GB 2.5" HDD
I have created one 500MB DH0: partition for workbench, and 1 x 3.5GB partition for DH1: Work, using WinUAE and all the methods described in the wiki.
The problem is that on my real A1200 only the first 500MB DH0: partition shows up, the other has vanished! But under winuae the drive shows both partitions.
The drive by default is added in UAE as "HD Controller UAE".
Under that configuration it is fine, However if I change the controller to IDE0 I get the same problem of the drive disapearing as on my real A1200???
I have had a bit of a traul of the forum and google, but no real clues as to why.

Any help appreciated

It's something to do with the hard disk being over 4GB capacity and the partition being over 2GB. I think you have to use OS3.9 with BB2 (including the ROM update) to solve these issues. There's a few threads on this, I'll try and find them and post some links.

Perhaps 500M+3.5G goes over the 4G barrior. (due to rounding in hdtoolbox). Try 3.4G.

Hi there,

Thanks for the info.

I made DH0: 490MB and DH1: 2998MB.
Now it all seems to work
I have applied the NSD patch and updated the libs also.

Just have to wait for CWB download to come back online now

You can remove this. It does not do anything for you.

You doubled the boot time to gain 100 MB of disk space ? Nonsense IMHO.

You don't need any patches or updates with this setup.

Change chipset from Generic to A1200 and controller type from UAE to *IDE0* to emulate real Amiga controller.

Run FixHDDSize and use the "Set to 4GB" button before you create partitions.

Well hindsight is a wonderful thing!
(or previous knowledge of how to do this!)
I will try again with what you suggest Thomas and report back.

Would you like a pre-release pack to test?

I have all versions uploaded. All they are missing at the moment is the KGLoad update.

I'm adding this to my Hard Drive Guide in the ClassicWB forum. Thanks Thomas.

Started UAE and added drive:

Made sure its chipset is setup with A1200 chipset extra:

Run Thomas's FixHD proggy:
It says that the drive is already ok, and all other options are ghosted.

Add SFS file system:

Configure DH0 Partition:

Configure DH1 Partition:

Save changes and reboot:

Didn't work!!!
Only one partition visible again:

Did I make the DH1: partition too big?

Any help appreciated

PS:

these were the libs I added, but have now taken off as per Thomas's advice.

The program is actually meant to increase the number of cylinders if it was installed as 8GB but really is much bigger than that. From that point of view it is installed correctly.

You cannot reduce the number of cylinders if the area is already covered with partitions. That's a safety protection. Delete the big partition and try again.

The highest you can use is 4096 MB. So your HDD is defined 30 MB too big. You can as well make the big partition a bit (244 cylinders) smaller, then it should work.

It's only 30 MB, not even 100 MB as I guessed above. Really not worth to hassle with patches and updates.
