Operation Alexandra and Jarlac are absolute jewels. Not only they are beautiful, but they play very well and for Alexandra, there is an interesting plot !

Operation Alexandra is a masterpiece !

I like all the first five games in the ranking. These run on a standard CPC464 with 64k ram.

I didn't love the Amstrad back then because to me computers that are build after another one (2 years after the C64 for example) should be better, and reading about it's specs, no HW scrolling, no sprites, no better resolution with colors, AY sound chip was too much. I just played a bit of Operation Alexandra and it is a good game, very well done and I start to enjoy AY sounding.

coders at the time were just using assets from either speccy and c64. But those were crap. And the Z80 CPU coding was done with feet.

Since quite a long while now, the CPC showed it can have colorful, nice screen, nice sprite, and very good playability, and music or effects in game.

the CPC can do so good work with HW sprites, or HW scrolling

The CPC + series (464+, 6128+, GX4000) has 32 colors on screen out of 4096, scrolling and sprites hardware.
But only few games for this series.

Recent conversion of Ghosts'n'Goblins near to Amiga version.

I grew up with a 664. . . have a 464 with the M4 Wifi Disk Drive emulator board now. I downloaded the zip of all those contest entries and played with a dozen or so of them. Sadly I couldn't get Operation Alexandra to run for some reason, but some of the others were impressive.

An odd selection of games. . . they seem very good technically with super fast scrolling and pretty graphics, but almost all of those were pretty terrible in terms of being fun games. . . was the contest done on a super strict time limit or something?

This is a wonderful new game that you can get or also buy for the Amstrad: Phantomas 2.0 remake.

Its amazing what the CPC can do. After soooo many games being Spectrum ports, it nice to see that the CRTC chip is unlocking its secrets and producing such smooth graphics! The soundtrack is really good also. Steel Wheels has to be my favourite.
The Oliver twins were very impressed with it.

You bet. and the worst is that the CRTC is an off the shelf component!

Will PD be 'free' or will you be able to buy a copy for the CPC?

Operation Alexandra is indeed top notch. Great action adventure. The character reminds me of MacReady (Kurt Russell) from "The Thing".

I might be wrong but my understanding is; the boxed versions will be very limited, and the game will be released for free digitally (it runs fine on a 6128 with Gotek or an FPGA device ). The license is so that it is an 'official Pinball Dreams' release and not a 'fan project' so to speak.
There are plenty of Demakes/Remakes released, which never contact the rights holder.

- It needs to be seen on a CRT and ideally connected to stereo speakers to fully appreciate the work gone into this. If you don't have the colour Amstrad monitor, SCART TV cables are around £13.

- CRTC, its certainly been tested on Type 0 & 1, and I am sure Type 2.

Any recommendations for Youtubers to review it? Currently I have thought of Nostalgia Nerd & RetroManCave. They are CPC fans.
