Best way to emulate an amiga on raspberry pi

My son got a Raspberry Pi 4b for Christmas and he has been playing around with it to play old Nintendo gameboy games on it. That did get me to thinking about amiga emulation on the pi. I have come across amibian as well as retropi both doing amiga emulation. The problem is I don't know much about the raspberry pi and how to best set it up. I am wanting to set up a pi so that it will be a multi system emulator. Is Amibian a complete operating syst m for the pi? Are you supposed to install the raspian as the os and the amibian acts as a program that is launched from. Any help would be greatly helpful. Thanks

Hello, being a raspberry 4 owner myself, here are some tips.

-Amibian seems to be the best Amiga emulator, but it is not yet compatible with the Pi4, so we will have to wait.
-Since you want a multiple system emulator, I think your best bet is Retropie, which includes the excellent Amiberry Amiga emulator. Unfortunately, Pi4 is not yet supported, but you can trick the system into identifying your raspberry as a Pi3 (there are plenty of guides on the internet).
-There is a standalone version, which boots directly in Retropie, but no compatibility yet, so you would want to install Retropie from within Raspbian, which is the official Pi4 Linux distro.
-Of course, you still have to buy the Kickstart ROMs.

Install Manjaro ARM (64bit) and compile amiberry your self. It's not that hard.
It works like a charm!

I have all the roms. Is manjaro arm a compiler? Is it like the amiga where you compile the code for a 020 040 or 060 as you wish but instead compile for pi4.? Thanks

Manjaro is a distribution (like Raspbian) for the Pi4. But unlike Raspbian it's 64bit (both kernel and userland) - The latest Amiberry has problems with JIT and 3.1.4(.1) on 32bit.

https://manjaro.org/ is a Linux distribution. I think is is not what you are looking for. If you can wait for RetroPie, Lakka, ... adapted to RPi 4, then wait.

If you can successfully compile Amiberry for RPi 4 you still lack the other emulators you want.

Thanks. I have not purchased one myself, my son got one for Christmas. I was wondering about a good multi emulator that I can stick on the back of my TV, but I would be doing mostly amiga emulation. My wife would not like it if I brought my amiga systems up from the basement and set up in the livingroom. Do they have a time line for retropi and the pi4? I thought that the pi4 was just a faster pi3.

Spend that little extra bit of $$$ and get true 1:1 hardware emulation via HDMI on any tv or CRT.

RPi 4 has a new CPU/GPU/VideoCore and USB3/GBit Ethernet/2 x 4k HDMI and other new things. They still do some tweaks for the official supported OS Raspbian. Of course for the time you can try the current RetroPie version or one of the unofficial releases for RPi 4 to see how it works. An update later should be possible. Then there is https://www.lakka.tv/get/linux/rpi4/

Grab an rpi3b+ instead full up to date support with Amiberry.

Pre made images with thousands of amiga games all working.

The problem with Amiberry, brilliant as it is, is the lack of cycle-exact emulation. This makes some games run at different speeds than original, making them rather unplayable (eg It Came From The Desert, Barbarian).
