Well, booting from PCMCIA is a possibility. Booting from one of those cheap CF card adaptors is not. With some funky hardware you could boot a small, minimal system that loads the drivers needed and passes control over to the inserted CF card. I'm sure there was an external hard drive that worked that way in the past... But it would be much cheaper and easier to burn a custom ROM with the necessary drivers.

So, some time in rest of 2020 is highly likely. Sweet! I primarily use the CVisionPPC for games. Sometimes using the Workbench for 3D displays. Mostly I use Picasso 4..screen dragging works great there, so I'm not concerned CVisionPPC won't support it. Having it functional to use P96 only vs swapping..is excellent news. I made 2 scripts to <-> P96 (newer) and CGX4. Soooo... |

Thanks for all the hardwork to the 3.2 team!
I have a few suggestions: 1. Incorporate TLSFMEM into the memory handling. 2. Incorporate Executive like multitasking, under heavy loads it runs much better than round robin. 3. Features like visual prefs for tweaking the gui. 4. Incorporate a network stack into it. 5. Incorporate PFS3 into it. 6. Anything to make a quick process for getting a blank Amiga up and going. |

AmigaOS 3.2 status update:
The past few months have been critical towards putting all AmigaOS 3.2 components together and properly integrating them to get them to be ready for a release distributable format, which is no small feat by itself. During that period, we have also hunted and bugfixed literally hundreds of issues. Many of them which came from all the new features we have implemented, but as you may well have guessed by now, also many others that have been lurking in the shadows for decades. Suffice to say, this has been an arduous job for all of us. We are currently at our last stretch towards a release. The bug count is now pretty low, but those few bugs remaining still need to be addressed and are probably the most difficult ones to deal with. So when we are asked: When will AmigaOS 3.2 be released? There is no way we could tangibly measure this, I am afraid. And this is because it is subject mostly to solving those few remaining bugs. By the way, no spoilers: features will be announced only when 3.2 is out. We are all truly proud of the work we have done so far, and we are sure Amiga fans will be more than pleased with the outcome. Stay tuned, AmigaOS 3.2 is just around the corner! Now which corner is that? Well, that is a good question. |

I'm not only interested in 3D games. So that's not my only reason for excitement. Quote:
I already created scripts to switch between P96 and CGX4. I'd rather only use 1. I've been more of a fan of P96 though, so...great news to me. Exxxxcelllllent!! |

Yup! That's what I read from Thomas also. Very excited about that. I won't be switching to CGX4 anymore if it goes well (Thor is very good..so..). My Picasso 4 and AGA handle moving stuff off screen well, so I'm fine with CVPPC not doing that. I'd love to see WinUAE have Warp3D with actual 3D hardware emulation but until then...my A4K will be happy, as if that's possible for machine. Ha, ha!! |
