Amiga 1200 Fpga ram / accelerator

Is there any interest in a cheaper Amiga 1200 Fpga module based ram / accelerator? Not like the vampire, which is about £300 more than I'd spend, more like just a cpu and ram accelerator.

Yes, kind of like the A500 one being worked on in this thread http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=100729

NB: this is not to say "here's one already" it's to say "Here's something similar, perhaps a pooling of talent is a good idea"

Also welcome to the forum since that appears to be your first post!

Thanks. Hi. Yes, I spotted the other accel just after I posted that. I'll definately be watching that and may even beg for advice. I have a lot to learn on the fpga side, but have a Dev board designed and ordered ready for the module.

Amiga gear you don't have to sell a kidney to buy is always welcome. Apollo announced they were offering a free licensed version of the 080 core a while back:

https://amitopia.com/free-68080-fpga...team-is-great/

That might save you some time?

The Apollo core looks interesting, it would be nice to have that 68080 option. Does anyone have any experience of their core, without exchanging a limb for a vampire?

"To be able to provide this support you will have to provide us with at least 4 cards for bring-up and tests. You will also compensate =pay the testers for their hours spend."

That's put an abrupt end to that then.

Its not an unreasonable ask though if you're using their core, I think it would be better to query the cost before discounting the idea.

Forget the Apollo core, just go with TG68k

@RemoteFlyer: Which level shifters are you using?
I'm also thinking about connecting an FPGA to one of my Amigas.

Apollo core's target is not to be compatiable and thats why I'm not interested.

Very interesting product, hopefully you complete it.

Well it's been a lesson in FPGA design and a great distraction during the lockdown. A working a1200 accelerator with 24MB ram based around the DE0-nano FPGA board. [ Show youtube player ]

Wow, awesome work! I'm very impressed.

What frequency is the FPGA-implemented CPU running at? Are you using the TG68K core or implemented your own? Will you release it as open source, or keeping the design closed?

It is for sure a market for what you got there but beat the 030/50 and you have a much bigger market.

In my opinion 030 is the perfect CPU for Amiga 1200. Most compatible and rock steady.

24MB of ram is perfect.

Thanks. It's a tg68k running stable at 75Mhz, I think that's where I left it anyway.

It's taken a lot of work to get this far and I'd like to make some money from it if possible, not sure where I'm going with it yet.

I'm looking at the differences in processors, and how cache works. I'm working to implement cache on the chip ram. My design only has cache on the fast ram right now.
