Question How can I print to PDF using WinUAE and Nitro Reader 3?

I've looked through this topic for information about how to print WinUAE output to a PDF file. I'm using WinUAE 2.5.1 (soon to upgrade to 2.6.0 as soon as it comes out!) and Nitro Reader 3, which can create PDF files out of anything. What else do I need to do to be able to print Amiga text and graphics to a PDF file?

Use PDFLite as a Windows Printer driver.

And... how would that help me on the Amiga side of things?

This was what you asked for, this driver would do your printouts to a PDF-file.

You set that driver to the "Parallel Port Printer" in WinUae (IO Ports).

Just configure PDFLite as your default Windows printer and your WinUAE printer output will be directed to use it.

Let me put this another way. What can PDFLite do that Nitro Reader cannot?

And what would I need to do in my emulated Amiga -- that is to say, the Workbench side of things -- to make sure the output goes to my selected printer?

I wouldn't know. I have used PDFLite exclusively since I discovered it. This is actually the first I've heard of Nitro Reader.

Alright, assuming you would prefer to use Nitro Reader 3 and to avoid going over the same ground, what have you tried already (if anything) that has failed?

I'm simply stumped on what printer driver to select in Workbench.

I think you will need a copy of TurboPrint.

I'm not sure if it's permitted to upload even an old version after seeing that it's still supported and for sale.

Hmm... Even with TurboPrint (I found it on the web somewhere), I'm not seeing any available PostScript printer drivers.

Searching on EAB might be an option too: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=54198

Okay...

On a hunch, I took it upon myself to search my Workbench 3.1 disks (ADF images) for printer drivers, and I found a PostScript driver that I simply neglected to install when I first set up Workbench on my emulated Amiga 1200. I copied the driver over to my emulated HD, and it seems the driver works okay...

...but for some reason I still can't get my Windows side printer to respond when I issue the "Print" command on my emulated Amiga. What am I doing wrong -- or what have I been doing wrong all this time?

post a screenshot of your winuae "IO Port" settings.
not much you can change there , printerwise. so just play with the given options there.
if you send postscript then choose type "postscript (passthrough)".

I don't think it accepts postscript..

You have 2 choices:
- Postscript emulation (Ghostscript installation required) and Postscript printer driver in AmigaOS side.
- Epson emulation and compatible Epson printer driver in AmigaOS side.

Epson is easiest solution. Note that only graphics output will look ugly, text does not attempt to emulate matrix printer quality

EDIT: and as usual, check winuaelog.txt.

Okay. I have three Amiga Epson printer drivers in Workbench (EpsonQ, EpsonX, and EpsonXOld) and two options for Epson Matrix Printer Emulation (9-pin and 48-pin). What settings do you recommend on each side of the program?

robinhood2013, I'm currently also looking into this issue on another thread, if you still have an interest in solving this. What I can tell you is that the most likely candidate to choose in Workbench is the EpsonQ driver, according to the Amiga Forever instructions. The rest I'm not sure, yet.

What Workbench version are (or were) you using?

He appears to have been using Workbench 3.1

I overlooked that post. Thanks again, prowler. Anyway, I did get it working on 1.3.3.

I'm using PDF Creator which installs a PDF printer on windows. It can also save files as several image files, so you can open it in a pdf reader, print it and save it as another file type. There are many other alternatives out there. This one is open source.
