IPFs of games I own
Sorry if this is a thick question, but I've searched the boards and the SPS website and can't find a straight answer...
I have a load of original Amiga floppy game disks, but no longer a physical Amiga. Most, if not all, of these have already been captured by the SPS and turned into IPFs, so from their perspective they don't need them. My question: if I post all my disks to the SPS, as proof I own the games, do they offer a service where they will send me the IPFs from their collection? Or do they only do that for games they still need? |

If you can prove you own it, then sure you can get IPF images from them.
It's not that easy nowdays as Kieron was the main guy to contact concerning distribution and he's no longer around anymore. Hopefully one of the team will be able to help. |

You send them the images of your disks done with their tool, you get the IPF images. Doesn't matter if they already have perfect images of the disks or yours are broken, as long as there is already an IPF or can be created from your images. Hope that's clear now

It seems to me if antonvaltaz sends his originals over to SPS, they'll send him the IPFs. Who knows, he might have some version that they don't have, but would like.

Would I still get IPFs if I sent them my original games in the absence of an Amiga to image them with?

The SPS doesn't ask people to send them any original disk they own, but only the missing ones (the ones missing from their own collection).
AFAIU, there are some cases when a redump is actually needed, and they can be in need of an original already dumped. Same if you have uncommon versions (or sub-versions) of games that can help make a more accurate IPF. Still, I guess if you don't find obvious picks among your lot, you can send your list of unmodified originals with as many details as possible (was the copy protection tab on ? Did you play or save games from the floppies ?). It's not the most practical task, but someone living near you with the required hardware can make the dump then share the IPF with you. To me, sending floppies by snail mail when images can fit is a bit like asking AOL to offer dial-up Internet access again. Finally, you should ask yourself whether you need just a bunch of IPFs or as many as possible. In the second case, there's little chance the floppies you own will change anything to the already available number of IPFs there is to download / hunt. |

I'm not sure 'the official way' really works. I would much like IPF images of all my originals, and I'm really only interested in images of the exact same versions. Since there is no easy way for me to compare them, everything but the 'official way' is out.
So, I dumped everything I got. After many moons I got a link to one game, probably the only one that they were interested in. I replied to the accompanying e-mail and asked if I can expect more later, but got no reply. As instructed by the accompanying e-mail I sent my reply again weekly for months, until finally someone replied saying the mails are no longer being read and I should use the ticket system instead. So I did, and there the ticket has been sitting for months. I guess they're really just too busy to bother with anything that doesn't expand the collection. UPDATE: I was wrong and have now received everything. See five posts down. Last edited by Rixa; 27 May 2009 at 19:44. Reason: update |

I'd like to add that I came onboard a couple of months ago to also help answering the tickets. As you can imagine, the support is one of the toughest tasks for us because every request is unique.
I can only say that I recently helped another chap who got images for all 200 games he had contributed over the years. In case there are others having the very same problem: Please do re-submit your request or answer to the last answer you got from us to re-activate your ticket. You will get a reply within 1-2 weeks (usually much sooner). |
