As surprising as it may seem at first, all this is far from uncommon in general with computer systems... (Just remembered BTW that video displays in the buses of my hometown in France are still handled -- alas with very poor maintenance -- via pre-Archimedes era Acorn RISC-OS)
Countless sectors of activity all around the world simply have no interest in what tech is used itself, and see no point in investing to update even a very old computer system as long as it's still doing the job without the usual downsides of it being too much outdated (and for many applications in life -- primarily plain display, like for ATMs or what have you -- there are I assume very little downsides of the display system being even very very vintage) Same thing (and for the very same reasons + probable laziness on the part of some to evolve) about computer languages. Do you know Fortran code is still rather widely used nowadays for instance? |
