Panza Kick Boxing - Faulty Disk 2 on two copies?

So I have 2 different copies of Panza Kick Boxing (Retail U.S. Gold and Budget Kixx) and both have the same error on Disk 2, tracks 79.0/79.1 are not ADOS tracks but either protection or leftover MFM from another game. This affects the file GRAPHICS\tout1.bin and causes a read/write error as it's not an ADOS track so won't file copy off the disk!

Was this a known fault with some batches of this game?

Barry, as usual with loriciel/Futura games, the game datas are spanned from track 0.0 to 78.1. Track 79.0 and 79.1 are reserved for the protection, there are no game files datas on those tracks.

Your disk 2 is modified on tracks 40.0, 43.0, 43.1, 44.0.

I fixed my Kixx version using IPF #2400 as that Disk 2 has data from tout1.bin on 79.0/79.1 and also has longtracks. Same story with my other copy, the directory shows tout1.bin using tracks 79.0/79.1 on Disk 2.

this is not normal, because track 79.0/79.1 only contain protection patterns. There are no data from the game files.

Let me explain : loriciel programmers were working on disks formatted from track 0 to 78. track 79 was unformatted and kept as such. Once the game was finished, the master disks unprotected were sent to the duplication company operator.

The guy was adding then the duplicator track 79.0/79.1. And from here, the set of disks was used on the trace moutain duplication machine for replication.

Seems some UK releases had a fault then as I now have a 3rd copy (Retail U.S. Gold) that only has data to track 78 on Disk 2!

As Denis explains above, the programmers may have only formatted Disk 2 to track 78 by mistake!
