Stewart Gilray passed away yesterday
Stewart Gilray, the coder of Rubicon and Darkmere (amongst others) passed away yesterday after contracting Covid in December.
He was admitted to hospital on December 20th and had been in an induced coma for the past 9 days up until he passed yesterday morning. |

Shit, really sorry to hear that. I knew Stewart personally from my time in Aberdeen (when he worked in a computer shop by day, and coded bad demos for Fingerbobs on Atari ST by night...).
Had some good times in those years, he'll be missed. |

Sad
![]() So he was responsible for both Rubicon and Darkmere as a coder. I was curious why both games would have very similar graphical styles but I see quite some overlapping names in the coders and graphics artists in HOL. I guess the development company changed names along the way? I like Rubicon, it feels like you are mostly killing bosses in that game. It is one of those rare games where they got the amount of shots you need to kill an enemy just right. Not too little, not a slog. I wonder why the guy has white hair in the title screen but in the game itself looks like a thug with a bald head though ![]() |

We have 2 scientists reknowned here in France who died of the covid, they were very healthy at 72 yo. They thought that the type of life (they were very sportive guys, and they looked physically Twice less than their real age.) would protect them against the covid. The covid just killed them, they were not protected against it. |

He also was a fellow Atari scener (Caped Crusader/Fingerbobs) and made some nice demos. Edit: looks like WayneK already mentioned that. ![]() 51 is way too young to die. :/ |

Very sad news. We had a COVID death in the family early last year and it has been difficult to come to terms with it. I hope his family will have lots of love and support around them.

My condolences. Very sad to hear.
Covid is everywhere. Some people have had it with no effects or symptoms at all. Very scary indeed. |

Very sad, everyone here had covid for the last 2 weeks with only cold symptoms. RIP, I'll play Sniper Elite VR and his Amiga games as a tribute.
