Unarc (OS3.9) problem with rar files

On my system, Unarc no more unpacks .rar archives.
It used to work before.
When trying to unpack a rar archive with Unarc,
it no more lists the contents of archive ,
just freezes.
When running unrar command on Cli, it works.
Any ideas ?
Could it be that Unarc only supports some spesific version(s)
of Unrar ?!
I recall updating Unrar some time ago,
but dont remember the version of Unrar I used to use.What would
cause that kind of problem ..?
Maybe I have accidentally deleted some library or other system component ?!

UnARC does not use UnRAR but XAD libraries, you probably don't have the most up-to-date XAD or you have deleted some libraries.

Rename and replace your XADs with these:

https://aminet.net/package/util/arc/xad_rar

http://aminet.net/package/util/arc/xadmaster020

If you are using a higher CPU use this one:

http://aminet.net/package/util/arc/xadmaster060

Sorry for resurrecting this thread but I think that it can be more convenient than opening a new one since it is about unarc.
Where do I get the program from if I want to use it on OS 3.2 ?

I think Avalanche from Aminet uses xad libraries as well and it’s written for 3.2

Hi mfilos, thanks for the hint.

I did try avalanche and it looks great, very similar to unarc.

i have a small issue with it, though, even if I've setup viewmode as "list" and "close" as quit (saving the preferences on the program and checking if the tooltypes are correct), the GUI opens always in "browse mode" and I get a prompt when I close the program.

It seems that it still uses "browser" and "ask" as preferences/tooltypes.
Is there a way to force "list" and "close"?

Yes I confirm, Avalanche uses XAD libraries, but beware only RAR Archives up to version 4 are supported, Archives created with WinRar 5 and WinRar 6 not supported.

On Amiga to my knowledge neither of the latter two RAR formats can be unpacked, they are supported by WinUAE instead !

Indeed it has some issues with it's preferences. I already emailed the dev to check this issues so we'll see how it goes.
If you manual edit the tooltypes and set CLOSE=QUIT then it won't ask via the requester.
If you go into Preferences and save, it will overwrite it and mess it up (although the CLOSE seems to work despite not showing correctly).
The same sadly doesn't work for the VIEWMODE=LIST where it always by default uses the Browser preference.

I had issues as well with the snapshot, so I setup these values in tooltypes and never messed ever since:
WINW=600
WINH=400

@mfilos
Thanks for checking that and conferming the issues I'm having.

The program looks nice, I really hope that they will fix the bugs soon, in any case at least for the prompt at close and the window size I'll try your hints.

@amigasystem
Thanks for the info about rar. Fortunately I usually use only lha and zip archives.

@jurassicman
I just had a reply from the dev saying he fixed the problem.
Concerning the snapshot feature he told me
Quote:
The snapshot doesn't save immediately, you have to go into config and save manually afterwards (outstanding issue #43)
I indeed snapshotted and saved afterwards and the size is saved. Position though isn't...

No worries mate.

I just got another mail from Chris after reporting the problem with position snapshot...
Quote:
The annoying thing is I noticed this a while back and forgot to look into it. It's now fixed. If you want to snapshot and correct the tooltypes, just change WINX to WINY and vice-versa.

I will be doing a new release fairly soon, couple more things to add/fix.
So I guess a new update on Aminet in the following days...

@mfilos
I've just installed the new version.
The tooltype "QUIT=Close" do work and also the window size saving it with the preferences however I'm not able to save "VIEWMODE=LIST" in any way.
I mean, I have that tooltype but I always get the browse mode. I saved the tooltype either editing it or saving the preferences in the GUI.
Does it work for you?
