Dithell's Wonderland - 30 levels
Hi, i have edited the Dithell's Wonderland game, which came with the Amos Pro.
It has now 30 levels and needs a 1mb machine to run. The game can be modded - you can have multiple graphic/sound alternatives. Edit: Added a speed option - press joystick right to change it. Edit 2: Adjusted the speed, again. Edit 3 28.12.2022: Uploaded a new file. Have fun. Last edited by Dan; 28 December 2022 at 00:17. |

Jeepers, the movement speed is insane. Dang near unplayable to me.

Hmm, yes i see, when compiled it is running a bit too fast.
i could slow it down a bit, if people want it. (or add an option for it ?!) |

The player definitely has far too much inertia; I see this as more of a problem than the movement speed. However, it reminds me of those phone games where the actual game is made very easy to compensate for the poor controllability, so if the controls were fixed it might need to be made a bit harder in other ways to prevent it from being too easy.

It's Dithell's Wonderland though, it wasn't exactly made to be a hard game Surprisingly fun though. It has the idea of Carvup but lacking everything that makes Carvup annoying to play.

Definitely more playable, but I think you overshot it a little

Ok reuploaded it again.
The wait command is now at 1 for the slow, and 2 for the slower. (was 2 and 4 in the 2nd attempt). Lower than that it can not go. |

iirc the game has a very basic built in timer to slow it down on faster amigas.
I seem to remember the coder was someone good? not the best example in the world bit spaghetti. Uses zones for collision. IFF for background. Width limited to basic 1024 various things. Would of been a cool example if code was tidy and nicely commetted. |

The game checks, at the very beginning, a timer for a loop, and sets a variable to 1 if it is faster.
Later in the game code it adds a wait vbl if the variable (a3000) is 1. That is all i could find. But the problem is that the compiled version runs way too fast, compared to the uncompiled version. I guess a compiler was not (yet) available, when the game was made ... The Coder is Darren Ithell. |

Tried this game and it seems fun. However, seems a little quick as people have mentioned. I've downloaded again to see if I can us the slow down options. It's a shame the speed can't be kept as it really is slick feeling. But too slippery on platforms etc
Has anyone tried Dithell in Space? |

I think Darren Ithell did one of the games in that commercial ST bundle of STOS games (Games Galore?), so he clearly knew the language. He ended up working with STOS creator Francois Lionet on the Klik & Play package on the PC, funnily enough.

I'm not liking how the slow version appears on my display, it's like a really shoppy framerate. Playing it fast looks much better but obviously it's crazy hard to get used to. Made it to level 3 so far.

Hi, i must have played the game a lot so that i do not see what you all mean.
I have uploaded a test version. You can change the max movement speed with arrow up/down and inertia multiplier with arrow left/right. (p.s. it resets after each level or after death) You will see it above the score, currently it is 7 / 3 (you have to press the arrow keys or to get a score point for it to be shown the 1st time) If you give me the numbers at which it plays ok, ill change them permanently in the game. |

Hi,
I'v uploaded a new version of the Game. (1st post) Added a mod, xmas themed. (sorry no new levels) Made the Adf bootable. (Action replay 3 bootblock) Small bugfix: fixed a crash when in fallthrough mode and on balloon, going offscreen. Now the balloon stops at the bottom. |
