Clock for Amiga 500 (1MB chip-ram)

I already have an Amiga with 1MB chip ram. I need the clock feature.

Do i still have to buy A-501 or is there a workaround - basically i understand this is just one one battery and one chip.

So i'm wondering did anyone ever built a clock for stock 1MB Amiga 500's. Buying a 501 trapdoor RAM would IMO be money waste, since those 512k on can't be used by the Fat Agnus anyway.

Seems like that should be an easy build. Even if we couldn't find a clock chip one couls be emulated by a pic or atmel easy enough
