probably the dumbest question ever but how do I confirm my trapdoor card?

I have a 8mb accelerator "trapdoor" card for my 1200 and just wondered how do I actually confirm it's working? I got a feeling it's on sysinfo which I do have on the HDD but don't know where to look, or is it on the double mouse click bootup thingy?

Hey there!
First of all, there are no dumb questions.

Now, you should have 8mb extra RAM on the top Workbench menu bar.

You can also, upon reboot, hold both mouse buttons and when the Early startup menu appears, check in 'Expansion Board Diagnistic' if your Amiga reports the card as Working.

The simplest way of seeing if your 8MB card is working is to check the amount of memory reported by Workbench or the CLI. For the former, this is achieved by starting the Amiga as normal. This will list the amount of memory your Amiga has in the workbench menubar at the top of the screen (sometimes you need to click once somewhere on an empty spot on the Workbench screen for the bar to show free memory).

The 8 MB will be part of "other memory" and ought to be around 8.000.000 bytes. If the card does not work or needs special software to add the memory, it won't show this.

You can also use the CLI: start the Shell or CLI and use the command AVAIL. This will list the amount of available and free memory, it should list around 8.000.000 bytes for Fast Memory (assuming you have no other expansions).

There's other options that go into more detail, but the above should work.

Also run SYSinfo, if you have it. Your machine should have doubled in speed.

I get you already got your answer but still... in Sysinfo if you select the "Memory" button. On the screen the opens you have "Next" and "Prev" buttons that toggle between the different type of memory installed such as chip mem, expansion mem etc.
