Amiga 500 NTSC Upgrade Questions
hello picked up a NTSC Amiga 500. wondering how to best upgrade it so it can run PAL region public domain games. I do already have a 1084 monitor here.
specs of the amiga are rev 5 fat agnus 8370 paula denise 8362r8 I am told that I need a 8372A fat agnus chip from a NTSC amiga 2000. If it was from a PAL amiga it won't work? |

I'm not sure to be honest but I'm curious as to what happens if you try play a PAL game. Does it stay in 60hz mode or not boot at all? Fortunately most PAL games are even better in NTSC mode since many didn't utilise the full PAL resolution resulting in an ugly black border on the bottom of the screen which is why I force many PAL games into NTSC mode

Aren't all 8372A chips PAL/NTSC compatible, with the default operating mode set by a jumper/trace on the motherboard?
