TFT LCD Display
This one may be a bit out there, but I'm just wondering how possible it may or may not be. (Of course, it CAN be done, probably, but the question is how much work?)
How difficult would it be to adapt a TFT LCD from an old laptop computer to be plugged in to the video port of the Amiga? Are most of them digital or are they analog? I am assuming that analog would probably be much easier. Ideas? |

@JD
Firstly depending on the age of the desktop, may infact deem that you cannot use the panel as the panel matrix and logic are all intergrated into the laptop video system. However modern-ish laptops have interchangeable screens so with the right dongle every thing is possible. You would need a xx pin (depending on model of panel) digital to analogue converter. IF you could find one copatible with the lcd display panel, then you could buy one, they average around £45 including postage, which arguably means you could be a small second hand LCD monitor for less. once you have analogue converter you will then need to *up* scan the analogue output of the Amiga. there are many ways you can do this from internal Scan Doublers Flicker Fixers, to external ones. the latter being the better option in my book. you can pick up a very reasonable TFT/CRT TV Tuner that also has multiple inputs for SVideo / VGA (not sure if its 15kHz applicable) / Composite / RF. this will set you back around £35. (you can get a lot more expensive ones!!!) combining the above unit with either an analogue to digital converter to LCD panel, or just LCD Monitor will suffice quite nicely. I hope that helps you out a bit. |

If you wanted a small TFT display the screens for Playstation1 (PS2/XBOX maybe?) are hackable to show Amiga display

The orig. Sony PS1 screen does RGB. I have a cheap-o PS2 screen that does RGB, most of them have the ability but the wires are not on if you know what I mean. Only word of warning I can give is messing with cheap-o-make-you-console-portable type screens is the resolution is usually crap on most of them. Last edited by DrF; 24 January 2008 at 10:04. |
