SCSI to USB advice required.

Has anyone on the forum had any experience of:

SCSI to USB.

I want to connect an external Amiga scsi drive and read/archive it with
WinUAE.

I wanted to avoid tearing the external drive down if I could!
I have one of these SCSI to USB connectors that was amongst a tonne of my hoarded stuff.

Drivers have been a nightmare so far, im slowly making progress.

Upload a pic and/or give the make & model of the converter.

Many models can work with Windows' built-in USB mass storage driver

It is exactly like this one:

Shuttle Connects B000398

It appears to be the same as SCM Microtech?

I tried it on Windows 7 64bit. I will fish out a old laptop with Windows XP-SE and see if that makes any difference. So far on windows 7 it just will not start.

Go into Device Manager and double-click the hardware (ie the USB to SCSI) then click on "Details" tab and under "Properties" select "Hardware Ids". Search the 1st or 2nd value in Google. This will have a specific hardware register and be helpful to narrow down the correct drivers. If you can copy paste it here I'll take a look. As to what the external appearance is, this doesn't matter as that is just a housing.

You're in luck, all the SCM chipset-based USB-SCSI converters work without installing a special driver.

You have to set the drive's SCSI ID to 0 and maybe (depending on the specific converter model) tell Windows to use its built-in driver if it doesn't automatically. If you can't figure out how to do that I can type up the details.

Check the converter's USB ID as lesta_smsc suggested. If it's 04E6:0002 Windows will use its built-in driver automatically.

The converter should work out of the box on Linux too.
