EasyADF Piracy

We have been developing EasyADF steadily over the last four years and we exclusively distribute this software with printed manual and setup program (ADAPCMCFL-boot).

It is with regret that we have had reports that EasyADF, has been, and currently is being offered from unlicensed sources. We are taking action to protect our intellectual property.

A request to the Amiga Community:
If you have received pirated EasyADF software, please send it to us with details on where and from whom you obtained it and we will replace it with fully licensed EasyADF software free of charge.

All licensed users of EasyADF will have free updates for the package as and when they are released.

Why on earth would anyone want to pirate it?

Its only redeeming feature was that it came on an Amiga disk.

Maybe it's the cheaper PCMCIA adaptors with drivers on internet auctions?

Maybe, but they could make their own in 5 minutes using free tools and avoid any hassle:

http://aminet.net/package/driver/media/cfd
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/adfblitzer

I think they could even use ppill's wonderful Hombre disk?

I agree.

But this (Ed:IMHO) is not a "nice" product. It makes too much profit off the backs of the unpaid coders who created CFD and FAT95.

Perhaps. But the fact that people are willing to piarte software when freely available LEGAL drivers for the hardware are on Aminet clearly means something. Is EasyADF easier to use than the DIY drivers or something?

No. ADFBlitzer is just as easy to use.

All I can think of it is probably easier to duplicate the EasyADF disk than make your own?

And get it right, EasyADF has no drivers... it's just an application. The AmigaKit disk uses the freeware driver (CFD) from the Aminet to access the CF card.

I understand that some users have not used EasyADF - we have many good reviews of the software from users.

Here are the features that EasyADF has over some rival products:

- Minimise EasyADF GUI to a simple appicon on Workbench- then simply drop archives (ADF, ADZ, lha, lzx) onto the appicon and auto-decompress them without running full EasyADF GUI.
- EasyADF auto-mounts RAD disk when you send ADF to this device
- context sensitive pop up help bubbles
- view contents of lha archives in a window with single click
- lha and lzx archive decompression with a few clicks
- perform file operations within EasyADF (delete, rename, information) for floppy disk only users
- view/navigate through disk images on screen, track by track
- keyboard shortcuts for every function
- scalable user interface - works with modern rtg screens, proportional window hacks as well as a basic A600 with wb2.0
- printed documentation
- regular free updates to existing users- coming soon: in built serial cable transfer tools and DMS support

Please remember that customers buy EasyADF and get future updates included

Hope this helps

My two penneth

I think there are arguments for both sides - as always - I'm sat on the fence

For those that want to go out and create their own ADF management system - great Aminet.

For the lazy buggers like me that like to have it done for them - thanks AmigaKit.

I use EasyADF and ADFBlitzer.

ADFBlitzer won't handle anything else but ADFs - which it's very good at.

EasyADF will do ADFs and Archives. Saves messing with different programs.

Again on this carcass of a subject...
people is perfectly entitled to make a work of anything legal so if you don't like that, it's just your own opinion, this is not the place to discuss ethics of commerce.

He ate your balls?

I have no problem with amigakit, I recently poked a bit of fun at his shameless self promotion. But his webshop does provide a service. What particularly do you have an issue with?
