Our Amiga 500 project
Like me, my son is an Amiga 500 fan. We were lucky (hopefully) to get an Amiga 500 motherboard in Rev. 6A. Unfortunately the Kickstart ROM is missing on the mainboard.
Does anyone know which Kickstart ROM fits on the mainboard ? The only other information we see is the sticker with A500 P HKC S/N 931614 WW /89/90 BR Planetinfinity |

If you are asking which kickstart would be the ORIGINAL one then it would be the 1.3.
If you are asking which fits , then any of the A500/A600/A2000 single chip kickstarts will fit. You have the ability to have whichever one you want from 1.2 all the way to 3.2 or even a custom kickstart. You do not have to stick to one as there are plenty of Kickstart switchers around that will let you select between two or more. |

I noticed that Kickstart 3.2 needs 2 MB RAM but I don't have a RAM expension.
So I want to buy kickstart version 1.3 but on ebay I find 1000 offers about kickstart 1.3 is there something I need to check before I buy a kickstart ROM ? For example would this offer work in our A500: https://www.ebay.de/itm/285028700656...75.c101224.m-1 Last edited by Planetinfinity; 03 February 2023 at 16:27. |

version 2.04 has quite a few differences from v1.3 , not least of which is a better workbench , with lots of upgrades over workbench 1.3.

During our cleaning session for the mainboard, we noticed that the RGB 25 pole port has a bent metal. So I used a screwdriver in order to remove the screw.
Does anyone know where can I buy a new metal for the 25 pole connector (Picture attached). |

It's actually a DB23 (it has 23 pins) and its not easy to find.
Mass production stopped many years ago so if you find one it will be pricey! I would suggest to try and fix it by fitting the female connector and press it into shape with the help of some pliers. If you absolutely need a new one individual computers sells those: https://icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/produ...connector.html |

It can be done. Don't bend to much (metal fatigue) try and find some thing with the same radius, long screw in a vice and tap with soft hammer to shape then maybe some needle nose for a bent lip.

If OP wants mainly to play games, then it’s better to stick to 1.3 since badly written games (or cracks) will crash on 2.04.

Hello,
today we received our Kickstart ROM and installed the ROM in the correct direction. Afterwards we plugged the monitor cable into the Amiga (Monitor worked on another Amiga 500) and added the powersupply (Powersupply worked on another Amiga 500). Unfortunately when we power on the Amiga we don't see any output. The only change we see is that the red keyboard LED is constandly on. We already cleaned the mainboard with alcohol but this also didn't help. Does anyone have an idea ? |

The AMIGA can take a little while to boot , especially if no floppy is connected. Does the power (red) LED start dim and then go brighter?

Hello,
we waited around 5 minutes without any monitor output. The LED was not going brighter, it was always the same brightness. At the second test we saw the screen was showing a purple screen, but nothing changed during 5 minutes. |

I would carefully remove and re-seat the reset of the DIP chips, checking the legs for corrosion.
Beyond that, a DiagROM might be your next choice to aid you in troubleshooting the issue. |

Do you mean the Caps Lock LED is constantly on? If so, try booting the machine without the keyboard connected. Keyboard errors can cause the rest of the machine to not boot, and a keyboard isn't required for it to boot.
Without a disk in the drive, booting to the insert disk screen is typically a matter of seconds. With a faulty drive or no drive, that can take longer but still less than 30 seconds. I would agree that Kickstart 2.04 isn't the best choice. If the machine is just to play games, 1.2 or 1.3 will give the best compatibility, and if you're going to sacrifice that compatibility for user experience with the OS, 3.1 offers similar compatibility to 2.04 but makes many more improvements without requiring the extra RAM of 3.2. Ultimately though, if OS use is the way you're going, some extra RAM would be a good thing anyway, in which case 3.2(.1) is as up-to-date as you can get. |
