Seem to remember C.A.P. being quite special for the humble 500. Better not load it up, would spoil the rose tinted view.

What alexh said. And Alpha Waves.

I also liked Midwinter, but that didn't age so well.

No, CAP still holds itself pretty well, another favorite. Quite quick on 68000!

Seen only in video (and seems to remember as demo in half nineties on a computer club) but this, albeit unreleased, seems pretty impressive even on a 500:

Ambermoon is by the far the game with the best 3D engine. From what i've seen so far, it has awesome display routines with beautiful real 2D textures applied on 3D surfaces.

Even on A500 it's an incredible feat

Interesting. This seems to have been written by a guy I worked alongside at Argonaut in 1997/8

Unlikely. He was nostalgic in 1997 when I introduced him to UAE and Fellow but not that nostalgic he wanted to code again

No mention of "Knights Of The Sky" yet? I had a quick game on it yesterday, runs very well on the A500.

The music in "hunt for 7th october" kicks ass... Makes me want to re-record it on real instruments. I never really got into demos because all of the speedy techno like music just ruined the visuals for me - but that hypnotic slow thing going on in "hunt.." Is bad ass.

Cool stuff.. Trying to get back into the amiga hardware world.. Look forward to enjoying some of this on real hardware...

Legends of Valour blew me away at the time!

Also:
Virus - great landscape
Zeewolf - great clipping
Vaxine
Epic
Robocop 3
Thunderhawk
Resolution 101
Future classics Collection - maze game (great use of pre-rendered 3d effects)
Bad Company (a bit crappy, but I liked it)

I second Blob, great use of 2D scaling.

BTW: Has anybody ever played Eye of the Storm? You fly around in the eye of Jupiter, and there are lifeforms there. It is extremely lonely and scary. Also a very crappy game.

Microprose's flight simulators were light years ahead of their time. F-15 Strike Eagle II really mesmerized me when I was a kid..

..but one day I managed to get my chopper to take off in Gunship 2000 and my eyes nearly poped out of their sockets.

Knights of the Sky was also a similarly huge achievement.

And EPIC was the closest we got to a Wing Commander game for a very long time..

Let's not forget the fact that pretty much the whole galaxy was crammed into a single floppy in ELITE. And how mindblowing the graphics of Frontier are still amaze me to this day.

However, impressiveness award has to go to either Hunter or Midwinter II due to the scope and scale of the games.

The 3D coverdisk game Alianator was very fast on a stock A500, and with anything faster it became too fast.

Skull Army did quite a few fast 3D tunnel games, like Hydrozone.

Indianapolis 500

Hover Force, Hover Spirit, Power Drome

Wingnuts (http://hol.abime.net/4876)

Simulcra

Star Wars

Mercenary I/II

---- others (untested)

Hyperion, Matrix Marauders,
Gunboat, Embrio
Borodino / Gettysburg / Armada
Dawn patrol, red baron,
Moonfall
Titanic II
Wild Wheels
mysterious worlds - coverdisk
