The CDTV keyboard is going to rapidly become one of the rarest pieces of Amiga hardware, purely based on the ammount of people doing what I did and butchering them for the keys.

This is an interesting thread.

I've got an NME A2000 keyboard - but US layout and no C= key. It has the shallowest keys of any Amiga keyboard I've seen. Feel is pretty good, but it's not as easy to clean as the A3000 and A4000 Mitsumi keyboards. With those, the keys and plastic backing all come off in one piece and you can throw it in the dishwasher. The NME individual keys pop off nicely, but it takes forever to manually clean the metal backing. My NME keyboard was in pretty bad shape when I found it - almost as bad as if somebody had it shoved up their ass for a year. I also have an A1000 keyboard that was in even worse shape - like somebody had it shoved up their ass, then that person got himself crammed up an elephant's ass... for a year. After cleaning a couple keyboards like that, you start to get paranoid and refuse to let anyone wearing loose pants near your Amigas.

A couple more points:

My A500 keyboard is the "two membrained" type. It's a bit too "springy" for me and over the years some keys have developed an annoying squeak. I prefer the A1000 and A3000 keyboards. (although the A500 key plastic seems higher quality)

I've also got an A4000 Mitsumi keyboard that has springs instead of rubber cups and plastic membrane instead of PCB. Half the keys went yellow (none of my other keyboards went yellow). This is my least favourite keyboard.

(I'd take some pictures, but I don't have a digital camera.)

I'm trying to restore some keyboards (A1000, A2000, A3000) - which are perfectly fine except for a few broken keys. Does anybody have keyboards that are beyond repair and wouldn't mind selling (or giving) me a few keys?

On the Mitsumi A3000, I need "Esc", "F9", "F10" and the numeric keypad "0". I'd also need the rubber cups and plastic "stems" for each key (mine are broken or missing).

On the NME A2000, I need "Shift" (left, but both appear identical) and numeric keypad "0". I just need the keys - the bases are fine.

On the A1000, I just need the numeric keypad "1" (Again, a missing numeric key! What, do people eat these or something??). I assume it just plugs into the plastic holder.

It would be nice to see these keyboards whole again.

This looks like a Mitsumi too (it's the most common maker after all). You could just carefully remove one of the keycaps and compare what you see under it with the pictures posted in this thread.

I had to clean an A500 keyboard the other day, my recommended method is a toothbrush and contact cleaner.

1. Take each key off, if you accidently pull the white plastic out underneath, put this back in carefully first.

2. Soak the end of your toothbrush in contact cleaner, this is good for about 4 keys at a time, clean the contacts by running the bristles over the delicate ends of the copper contacts, two things, don't do it too hard and try not to press the white thing at the same time, this closes the contacts.

3. Put your keys back on and test

I still have to take some pictures of the blue membrane keyboard of A600 units. It uses a very unique solution for the keycaps.

It's relatively rare, as they were only made for one or two years, but they were made in large numbers.

In all honesty, they are not really coveted by that many people, so this is not one of those "get rich on ebay" chances in life. Not too many people know what the NMB keyboard is like to type on. I'm happy with the ones I have, one in every Amiga I use. :-)

Hi Jope, quick question about the NMB keyboard: has yours got a link across J05/J06? Reason I ask is that I've just tried mine in an A500plus, and whilst the LEDs work, the caps light stays on but I get no response from the keyboard... Strangely, reset works
