Things you thought you would see in 10 years time...but didnt....
The reason is because i was playing mortal kombat 2 on epsxe the other day and it took me back to when i 1st saw pitfighter/mortal kombat in the arcades and the photorealistic graphics blew me (and the gathering crowd) away. I thought at the time that one day, ALL games would have photorealistic graphics. Looking back i now realise that they were just 2d sprites and since the advent of 3d, its not possible/looks naff to have photo sprites in games. I wonder what playstation(7 maybe?) will have photo gfx?
Anyone else make predictions with games etc? I also predicted one day the amiga would have a better OS than microsoft, and dya know what? 1 outa 2 aint bad! Workbench is still better than vista in my eyes. Well, workbech never made me swear at the screen and think of throwin g the install disks in the bin.................... |

i thought that we will have games like prince of persia like films and thought that virtual helmet will come with new console generation before 2000 but it never happened.
If the amiga wasn't die perhaps we could have that now ? It's too bad than 3d games killed 2d games evolution. I just still love 2d games |

When I was a little boy playing ZX speccy and C64 games I fantazised about games in which you can move around in a third person view shooting things, interact with the environment and solve puzzles, then Wolfenstein and the likes and especially Doom came and it was quite like I predicted in my little boy's mind.
Later on I expected Virtual Reality would become the new standard in the rather near future, I expected games and even interface interaction would go through virtual reality headsets expanded with sensors and such to create a realistic experience, especially in the console world i believed this would become the new norm quite soon but alas, it never happend. Now with the wii we might see a new development in that area but I doubt it really. Quote:

I was going to mention Virtual Reality, there used to be quite a lot of fuss about that. File that one under "it seemed a good idea at the time"

I thought I could buy a "printer" that could print in 3D, like print me a Beer
Well to be true I did also expect adventuregames to become more like movies, but with a lot of interaction, but sadly adventuregames are almost dead |

I too expected virtual reality to catch on. I remember how cool I thought it was that Virtuality was run on an Amiga 3000.
There was also the whole voice input thing, but that died as well. I can just picture walking past cubicle after cubicle of people dictating. It would drive one crazy after awhile. Then there would always be someone who wanted to mess you up by either yelling or engaging you in conversation... |

What? You mean you've not had any cats back in Turkey, or were you already in Japan?
That's sad... |

virtual reality ? that crap was pure propaganda for lamers
I remember on 1997 I got a friend which worked on a computer' enterprise that enterprise on the year 97 offered here on argentina a special service for partys.....which service?.... the famous Virtual reality ' set...helmet+gloves which you can play games like duke nuken 3D I remember that the VR set was really expensive...about 3000 U$ I joined sometimes my friend to the partys to make ppl know the virtual reality set but....we hated that helmet After you play duke nukem or doom for about 3 minits using the helmet...you win a terrible headache, sickness and others traumas... also you feel a terrible sensation of claustrophobia spiderphobia elephantphobia and others phobias Now on the 21 century VR was abandoned to the memorial of stupids and obsolete invents.......a good start |

I think virtual reality of some sort is an inevitability. It's just a question of time.

VR, hover board, flying cars, it will all happen some day, I'm sure, and it could have been reality by now if such research was funded, it's all mostly about money.

I thought that Video Phones would be standard in every household. Yeah sure, we have webcams, video conferencing..etc. but i kind of expected the household phone to be incorporated with a screen and to be affordable to for most people.
