Frozen Workbench and HDD Led Solid On: What is Happening?

Hi all!

Long time no post, sorry about that! Life caught up with me unexpectedly and I am trying to get back on my feet... which means going back to my dear Amiga .

For a little while now (few weeks), my Amiga server has had problems: after a reboot, everything works fine for a while but then, after few hours, the Workbench freezes and the HDD led is on solid. From that point on, any program accessing the HDD just freezes...

My Amiga is an A1200 motherboard with Blizzard 1240 and a SanDisk CF card with the Workbench partition as DC-FFS, another DC-FFS partition, and all the other partitions as PSF\03. I ran DiskSalv on the DC-FFS partitions without finding any error. I ran PSFDoctor (Check mode) and it said that my PSF\03 partitions were formatted with "PSF-II 18.5" and that they are all fine.

What could be happening? Could the CF card be corrupted/broken?

Cheers!

I had an SSD drive that started working intermittently once. Would start working fine, then freeze everything as you described.

The only other thing perhaps could be a failing power supply?

I once installed (unintentionally) DC-FFS on my HDD and it gave read errors almost every minute. DC-FFS is meant primarily just for floppies afaik.

Hi all!

Thanks for your advice... Definitely something is going on... After freezing regularly... My Amiga has now been running for 20 days without failing!

Cheers!

Did you ever recap it? Erratic behavior usually means bad capacitors.

Hi Akira!

Yes, it was recapped but I must check it again... I discovered with a friend that another of my recapped Amiga had been only "partially" recapped...

Cheers!
