Diggers AGA
Upon request I mailed Diggers AGA to someone who had contacted me through this forum.
Unfortunately it seemed Diggers AGA doesn't run on standard configurations any longer. When I made my notes earlier I had made a note to install to harddisk (Oops forgot that in the reply), and then just use a standard A1200 setup. That was back with WinUAE 8.14r3 (before the JIT implementation). The game would after being installed to harddisk run fine although slowly. With 8.16 WinUAE refused to boot up my workbench so I couldn't test that there. WinUAE 8.21r1 and r3 both show the same error, namely a runtime error and crashing winUAE. I've tried tweaking the settings a bit, but not knowing what I'm doing I didn't get it working. Could anyone offer any advice on how to get the game running on a WinUAE version newer than 8.14r3? |

A1200 comes with a Kickstart 3.1 (ideally 40.068), so the best way to run this game is to use this Kickstart version.
Anyway, here's the config I could help a guy out at the German GAEB. Hope that one works. |

Well I downloaded the config file. The game still crashes the emulator right after the map select screen. It might be the rom version I'm using since I'm using a 3.0 rom afaik (to speak the truth I'm not sure)

Same error with 40.068 (Yes I downloaded that to test even if my A1200 reports only version 39.106, don't see use for more A1200 roms though). And apart from the problem with slowness it worked peachy before with my old rom.

Your game version might be knackered.
Again, my version even works with WinUAE 0.8.8 R8! (apart from smaller graphical issues). And WinUAE 0.8.21 R3, too, of course. I'll up my version in the Zone ... maybe it's indeed different from yours. Or the game doesn't work on recent WinUAEs if played from a HD, well I don't know because I've always played it from disks (ADFs). Last edited by andreas; 28 May 2002 at 09:40. |

Thanks Andreas. Though it appears to be the same version I had (same cracker group) it doesn't crash, but rather just stays still at the mission objective screen for some reason. I'll figure out though. Thanks.

Well the version I downloaded sent WinUAE 8.21r4 crashing like the other version did. With a bit of tweaking though I was able to get around the problem. Still stuck at the loading/objectives screen where it says I should collect 600 to win. How do you get past that part?

Thanks Terminator. Doesn't crash with that setup, yet it still refuses to start the game itself on the newer versions of WinUAE(don't have 8.8r8 installed), it still freezes at that screen telling me to raise 600 cash to win. It loads a bit and freezes loading on track 73 (both the version I sent you and the version from the zone)

Hmmm I'm using.....
Use WinUAE version 0.8.21 Release 3 and you 'should' have no problems. One thing I changed in that setup was to get perfect sound, increase the buffer to 3.
Also the save thing just refuses to work, the easist (and quickest) way to save/load the game is to use the 'take snapshot' feature and 'load snapshot' .....you can save it at any time then (even mid-level) and load the game instantly instead of waiting for it to load up. Hope this works for you ps. still looking for a working version of CD32 Diggers pps. still looking for Dizzy Bix 6 ppps. anyone got a decent FTP to d/l from? Many thanks, Paul |
