How do I clone/copy Amiga ROMs?

Hi,

I have some ROMs I'd like to clone, I understand you can get a device with a ZIF socket and there's software out there that will backup your ROM.

I'd also like to be able to write to ROMs.

Watching this video here, apparently I need some special PCB made in order to clone Amiga ROMs?

Does anyone have a link where I can buy a ready to go ROM cloning thingy? (I can't solder, I have horrible hand tremors.)

THANKS!

The PCB is used to program the EPROM using the common TL866 programmer. There are more expensive ones that can program those eproms directly. For example the XGecu T56.

You can copy the current ROM in your computer with a memory monitor. You just need to save the area from $f80000 to $1000000 to a file.

I burned mine with TL866 (clone from aliexpress) + 27C400/800/etc adapter (sold on ebay), and the open source software for TL866 burners (minipro).

No issues. Just remember to test (winuae will do) roms before burning them.

Note A500/600/2000 do need swabbing (dd conv=swab) before burning. I don't know about the 32bit models.

If your rom is plugged into an Amiga you can download remus. Under the tools folder is a program called Romripper. There's a readme that explains it but basically depending on your rom you'll want to use something like:

Code:
romripper ram:dump.rom F8 512K
Which will dump your rom to the file dump.rom. For writing I use a TL866-II with adapter. I've heard some people have had success with a CH341a but I haven't tried.

Dumping is the easy part. If you have a nullmodem attached to your Amiga, you can just use AmigaXfer's (note: I'm the author) rom tool to dump it.

No agent software needed on the Amiga side.

Did not try it (yet) but from reading this description it appears to be a very impressive tool, great idea and implementation, I especially like the BERR & installable bootblock approach to solve the classic chicken/egg problem.

Never heard of AmigaXfer before, but maybe I live under a rock or smth.

Glad to hear you like AmigaXfer

I'll be releasing 1.1.1 soonish. Probably tomorrow.

It won't be a fat release, but it fixes an important issue affecting amigaos 2.x + setpatch on the dos tool.

Other than that, dos transfers can be interrupted, there's a couple new bootblocks (silly), and some UX improvements on common mistakes from reading user feedback on forums and such.
