SMBFS: Problems

I'm testing SMBFS on WinUAE to connect to mine PC (Win7 32Bit) but when I try to connect, I get the error (2, Host name lookup failure) someone can tell me where I'm wrong?

- WinUAE and connected with Miami (Uaenet.device) Browsers navigate quietly

- PC sharing works smoothly without restrictions (even the password request is eliminated) and sharing with other PCs works without problems

This is the command given to me:

SAMBA:SMBFS WORKGROUP="WORKGROUP" SERVICE="//NamePC/shared folder"

Have you tried with the IP address of the PC? If that works it's probably a host file you need to create on the Amiga side, for the NamePC to work.

Personally I use the GUI smbmounter, which makes it a bit easier.

I don't know about Miami - maybe it's not specific to RoadShow (what I use) but you may want to look in your Devs:internet folder for a Hosts file and edit that. maybe the way your session is dealing with DNS. Also, I've seen reports about Windows defender causing firewall issues. So if your share is on a windows PC - I have never gotten that to work. But I'm talking about a real Amiga vs. a WinUAE session.

I'll try smbmounter, thank you

My test is for sharing only PC (PC side I'm an expert, I managed a company network and many PCs on the net). Reconfiguring the connection AMiGA to AMiGA in the past I used to ParNET,a sort of Remote Desktop between Amiga that I did in the early years '90

Also, I've had issues with newer versions of SMBFS - I currently use 1.74 and it seems fine.

As far as windows shares, I just never got it working from Amiga to Windows. Now I use Amiga to NAS-SMB and Windows to NAS-SMB. Or if the file transfer is small I use Amiga Explorer over TCP/IP.

@spudje
Ok with SMBMounter it works well with both the connection XP that with Win7, tested the connection on WinUAE with either uanet.device that with bsdsocket.library

@Sinphaltimus
Amiga to Windows it works well either RDesktop that SMBMounter, RDesktop It does not seem to work with Win7

EDIT: Also solved the problem with SMBFS on Win7, it was just a Windows security issue on the "shared folder"

SAMBA:SMBFS WORKGROUP="WORKGROUP" SERVICE="//NamePC/shared folder"

Windows Explorer has issues accessing Amiga SMB shares. Try from the command prompt, it should work fine.

I tried many different file managers and found only 1 that works correctly. NexusFile5. This is a DOPUS 4 style file manager.

In the end I used NFS instead with my Linux box. Slow but reliable.

Try creating a script Run SMBFS Volume="name of volume as you want it to appear on the Amiga" Workgroup="computer name you are connecting to" user=you Service=//computer drive name/drive letter/shared folder

I only put that first bit in quotation marks. I have like a dozen PCs here connected to the Amiga and never have had a problem. I also run an NMBD script before I start so that the Amiga announces itself to the network.
