Steve's Finished A1200 CD-ROM/CF/PSU Project

Hi guys,

Yes, I know these A1200 SFF CD-ROM mods are becoming quite common, but you can't begrudge a guy a chance to show off his work!

Maybe we should have a sticky "Show us your A1200 mods" thread or something like that.

Here's a list of what I've added:
- 120W internal picoPSU.
- 20-pin female ATX adapter with wires soldered directly onto underside of motherboard (for picoPSU to plug into).
- power switch for internal PSU.
- 12V DC input socket for internal PSU.
- 4x EIDE 4-way buffered IDE interface.
- 40-pin IDE-CF adapter.
- Sandisk 4GB Ultra II compact flash card.
- Homemade audio mixer (Amiga and CD-ROM).
- 2 case-mounted phono connectors (original motherboard-mounted connectors removed).
- SFF 24x CD-ROM drive in a modifed caddy, held in place with two bolts in a similar style to the two bolts that hold the floppy drive in place.
- Blizzard 1230IV with FPU and 32MB RAM.
- A few cable ties to hold things in place.

Anyway, here it is:

If you're sat there thinking "Eh? It looks just like a normal A1200!", then I've achieved my goal!

But here are a few more photos that show the differences:

I can't take all the credit for this, because I've had to ask for help on this forum quite a few times (particularly regarding the audio mixer), so thanks guys for all your help!

I was going to make a black version, but for now I'm leaving it beige because the case and keys are still very clean and white (except for the '9' and '.' keys on the numerical keypad, for some reason). I have a black CDTV keyboard on standby though!

Steve.

Absolutely lovely job there

The external changes are so subtle that a non amigan wouldn't know you had altered anything.

'Hardware pron' tag needed.

Well done.

Because he did the audio hack which allows him to play CD Audio from the cd drive and have it come out through the native plugs he had to change the plugs anyway, may as well use military spec gold ones.
