Strange 3.5 floppy issue ...
Hi guys so I have somewhat of a puzzle on my hands and I hoped someone could explain whats going on...
I recently aquired a external 3.5 floppy drive (Amiga 1010). When I plug it in the A1000, its detected when I insert a disk, but here is where it gets weird. ANY disk I insert into the A1010 is DF1:BAD UNLESS I format the disk in the A1010 drive then it is "Empty". If I take the newly formatted disk from A1010 and put it in my A1000 df0: drive then I get DF0:BAD. Any ideas what the problem might be, I wouldn't think that is normal behavior. |

Sounds to me like the heads are out of alignment due to wear or being dropped, you need to take a disk that you know to be good from df0: and place it in df1: then run Xcopy and use the checkdisk tool, you will probably get bad sectors on the disk in Xcopy.
The next step is that you have to gradually adjust the two floppy heads' position until you get a good read on both sides of the disk. Once you have good reads on both sides the two floppy drives are in alignment with each other. If I am explaining this badly it's because I haven't done it for years. One thing to consider, what condition are the drives in and which one would you think is most worn? If df0: is reliable with original Amiga disks or cover disks then match the 1010 to that. WTF |
