Need Help for editor for shooter

Hi, We're going to do a game named Proxima which is a vertical shooter. We're search a good tile map editor for that.

We're watching http://www.mapeditor.org/. But this editor use .xml file format to save data. Reading this map in real time could be expensive.

Is there a better choice for our porpouse?

Thanks

How about writing a converter based on the C language loader.

Never mind, it could not be written on AmigaOS. Do you need a loader for your language?

Or what about the other industry standard, Mappy?

Exporters are easily written in LUA to generate the maps in any format you want, I've used it in the past messing around on Sega Megadrive & other retro console formats - should work just as well for Amiga dev.

It's possible to write a reader. It will not be a simple one, however.

http://aminet.net/package/dev/lib/libxml2-m68k or http://aminet.net/package/dev/c/expat-dev both written in C with C example codes. And this much is just to parse the XML.

The Author of "Tiled" Map Editor has added other export options in the past.
Currently the exports are:

- CSV files .CSV
- Gamemaker Room files .room .gmx
- Json map files .json
- JavaScript map files .js
- LUA files .lua

Surely the Simplest would be CSVs imported into arrays and compared with an array of integers to tile data to tell the game what tile to draw when/where?

I use TILED, and export as CSV.

Put a dc.w in front of the lines with a simple "replace", and voila, that's it.
