Blizzard PPC with PPC processor in TQFP package
Hello,
Last week I took this turbo card from my good friend Sir_Lucas from Poland. He gave me this card to make an upgrade from 040 to 060. Right now it's clocked: 040@40MHz and PPC@175MHz When I disassembled the heatsink on PPC I saw PPC processor in TQFP package, see picture attached. I never saw this accelerator card with PPC in TQFP but always in BGA package. Do you know if PPC@175MHz processors were always mounted in TQFP package on Blizzard PPC board or this card is somehow unique (very first production batch, special version, ...)? Thanks for sharing your knowledge/opinion! Stan Last edited by stachu100; 16 February 2011 at 09:26. |

That's it!
For time being I will wait a bit, maybe it's really unique version. It would be not wise to modify such item. Maybe someone would like to aciqure this card for collection. Of course Sir_Lucas (the card owner) must agree on that and for sur he is not interested to sell the card as he is still using A1200. But maybe swap for best Blizzard PPC if someone is interested! I will ask him. If no interest on this forum I will replace 040 to 060 as promised to Sir_Lucas. |

Missing SCSI-chip but have SCSI header for cable?
You know if that is a DCE or Phase 5 card? (ok it is P5 I noticed the logo ) |

Could you be more precise? Any benefits from that? Can I for example swap my 175Mhz to let's say 300-350 Mhz? Staszku once again I'd like to thank you for the interest in this matter. |

It might be easier to change.

My PPC card is the same. good job normal heatsink paste isnt conductive as I got some on the chip legs and its a pain to get the stuff off (gets between legs). It was a card from Eyetech's second batch of cards all those years ago. Although sold as a 160mhz card, it turned up clocked to 175.

I agree with Zips, the TQFP package would certainly be a lot easyier to repair or (possibly) upgrade. but other than that I truly dont know.
Its a very interesting piece, I wonder how many of these PPC's there are and if they are more (or less) prone to failure? Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing the picture! |

For what I found around the 'net it's possible to swap the overclocked 175MHz (160 at original clock) for a PPC603evFB200r (200MHz unit). But those beasties are rare.

Thanks all of you for these info!
So it seems that TQFP package was used by phase5 (DCE too???) for PPC card with PPC@160MHz and users (dealers too???) used to overclocked PPC processor to 175MHz. It means that such cards are not rare, so I will upgrade Sir_Lucas card without fear of "profanation" |

If you have enough skills, upgrade the PPC for a 200MHz unit, too.
Over clock it to 225MHz will make a good speed gain. |

Yes, I will try to overclock PPC as well.
Card is already upgraded to 060 and working at 60MHz (still require to clean solder flux residue from PCB; will be done after all tests) ; just have to try with SetPatch, 68060 or 68040 library to get all as it should be. Once software will be done I will test 060 at 66MHz (oscillator is waiting laready). http://picasaweb.google.pl/stacho100/BlizzardPPC# |
