4 Channel wav recording

Recording 4 channel wav files only works with DSOUND for me. Took me some time to notice this. For WASAPI my drivers seem to report only 2 channels on the relevant audio devices.
Maybe it would be nice to decouple the recording options from the actual sound output to soundcard, if possible. I was a bit irritated by the output options being greyed out when selecting "Disabled, but emulated".

For now I've switched to using the 4 channel supporting fork of uade at https://blog.airmann.de/uade-multich...audio-support/ but there's currently no Windows build so it might still make sense to look at a WinUAE solution.

I would like to check .... how can i see if the WAV file is 4 channels or 2 channels with WASAPI ?

You can try to open it with Audacity. It should show 4 separate audio channels. Also, if you switch back to the GUI and the sound options have changed back to "Stereo" it's an indicator that the wav will only contain 2 channels.

Sorry but i probably made confusion

I am talking of normal stereo WAV files actually .... are they 2 channels only ?

Yes. Stereo wav files are 2 channels (left and right).

Ok, somehow missed this thread before. So seems it's a known issue/by design.
