Getting Death Angel shmup to work
Earlier this year I had a working version of Death Angel but now I can't find it. I've tried the links at Lemon and on Turran and they all load but then just show a screen of graphic corruption and you can hear the game playing but can't see it. In this longplay
[ Show youtube player ] it says there is a whdload version but couldn't find that either. I know it needs 1.5 Mb total and 1 Mb chip but those settings don't help. Does anyone have a working copy or have a winuae config that can play it, thanks!

I never heard of this game before, looks a bit like SWIV. Really impressive for a PD game (HOL says it's PD/Freeware).

I remember Damien collection got working version, I have played it and finished. Basic drones enemies got too much hit points. Game is very close to Raiden with upgrades system, You have spread shoot and laser. I like how water looks and how game change its colour tone, like it was different time of day. It is hard game, but also worth playing if You like shumps.

Archive updated with the latest whdload slaves. I kept the fastmemfirst in the startup-sequence but in whdload, it is useless.

You can still launch there natively, by booting directly into the data directory.
My configuration: WinUAE 68060 / ks3.9 (Amikit8) |

Finally had a chance to really sit down with this game and wow! it might be one of the Amiga's best vertical shmups. It's obviously influenced a lot by SWIV and Raiden but it carves out its own character and is super intense, like bullet hell intense at times. Check out say 9:15 and 13:23 here for example

The sfx are awesome. I think it might get close to having as much on screen as Mega Typhoon at times, not 50 fps but it's longer than Mega Typhoon. It gets even more intense farther into the game that isn't in the video. I managed to beat it with save states but it had me sweating. If you like shmups this is definitely worth checking out, amazing that all this action was just on a magazine coverdisk, it deserves so much more. |
