Individual Computers buys source code for Poseidon

Jens Schoenfeld announced at AmiWest 2011 that Individual Computer bought the licence for the source code of the USB Stack Poseidon from Chris Hodges.

Looks like as when Jens is working on a USB card for the proprietary system bus, further more there is rumour of a turbo card for the Amiga 500 based on the 68020 CPU and a SATA card for the Amiga 1200.

Now that's some amazing news, we should make a statue for Jens he is indeed one of the most important people in the amiga scene right now.
That should give my 500 a all new life.
I'm wondering if he's thinking on making some kind of HD interface for the 500. The size of the case makes my 1200 jealous.

The pcmcia usb cards exist. Just not sure how it would be recognized in the amiga.

PCMCIA specs are 3.3V.
USB provides 5V...

There are several Cardbus (5V) USB cards, but I haven't seen a PCMCIA one...

(You "could" step up the voltage, but I'm not sure what amperage is provided via PCMCIA...)

I dont really understand this. I thought Poseidon was paid for by the AROS community? Over $4000 was paid in a bounty a few years ago to get the sources, have it ported and sources released under APL. I thought APL allowed anyone to do as they liked with sources so long as improvements are given back.

Can anyone elaborate here please?

I require a license that allows commercial bundling with hardware. In addition to that, some parts were excluded from the AROS package that I have in this source code license:

- driver source code of certain cards
- bugreporting over internet (which I may or may not use)
- automounting code for mass storage devices

On top of that, a back-port would have been required. Why pay somebody to port it back to M68k, if I can also pay the original author to license it?

Oh, i want it to. Perhaps not more then i want the Indivision MKII, but thats just coz i cant use my miggy without one... ACA1230/56, Indivision AGA MKII, and a Sata interface. yup, that sounds like a system to spend a eternity WHDLoading.

(BTW, i think Jens is stalling so my warranty on the ACA1230 will run out before the AGA MKII is released... Just to tease me. Little does he know, it's been well tested already, and works like a charm. It also is a great shark, and evil spirit repellent. See, no sharks or ghosts here...)

i think this is good news ,i was going to buy a pci usb card but was put off by not being able to register it.

This is cracking news, you just know Jens will do something wonderful with this.

Not to forget Chris Hodges who with all his hard work will benefit from this.
