Feature request (Audio Filter)
Sorry if this has been asked/answered before.
In WinUAE there was an option to use different audio filters EG: A500 or A1200. The A500 filter sounded the same as FS-UAE sounds now which is I assume how it is supposed to be, But the A1200 filter seemed to give the sound a lot more 'sparkle', It seemed to boost the higher frequencies and 'to my ears' sounded much better. Would it be possible to add the A1200 filter....or is it already available via a switch in the config file? Thanks, Dave. ![]() |

Code:
uae_sound_filter_type = enhanced ![]() ![]() Is there anyway to apply that line globally or do I need to manually edit all of my config files? |

If you use the launcher put it in 'Custom Configuration -> Custom Settings'

Should work global too. I've deactived the filter and use only interpolated sound, which works fine from global settings.

I don't know if it makes sence to combine these setting with the A1200 model in future versions so no user option is needed?

I think the audio filter sounds much better on real hardware. It's a bliss to disable it in emulation.

At least the both "Always on" filter doesn't sound good enough. Is the Emulated (Amiga 500) supposed to be the "sounds correct enough" one? The Emulated (Amiga 1200) sounds pretty close to "always off".

Interpolation mode selects the filter algoritm type. Sinc and Anti work, the rest are useless.

I use SINC anyway, but i can't really hear a big difference between always off and Emulated (A1200). I have another question, but will ask in another thread.

According the uade123 manpage the A500 has 2 lowpass filters. A static filter and the "LED-filter" which can be toggled on and off. On later models the static filter was removed. |

Current defaults in FS-UAE are:
sound_interpol=anti sound_filter=emulated sound_filter_type=standard if sound_filter_type=enhanced correspond better to A1200 sound filtering, I can set that as default when A1200 (and A4000?) models are chosen. Can someone confirm that this is correct? ![]() |

As said I use it on all configs right down to A500 as to me it sounds far better. Obviously I can't speak for other users but would it not be better to add a toggle switch so when people set up their configs they can also choose a filter? (independent of other configs) (same as WinUAE) ![]() |

But I have now changed the code so the "enhanced" filter type is enabled automatically with A1200/A4000 models ![]() EDIT: I have also experimented with changing stereo separation to 100% by default (was 70%). This should probably have a GUI control in preferences though. |
