Weird Amiga joysticks
Earlier I was reading a scanned issue of Amiga Format. I came across an advert (I collect retro game adverts) for a peripheral company named Cheetah.
The adverts showcased mostly joysticks. These were really strange joysticks in the shape of Bart Simpson, The Terminator, and Batman, amoung others. I wonder if any of you might have owned or used these things. To me they seem useless. Included is a photo of one of them. |

I have seen a Terminator joystick where the stick is the robot head, quite convenient to hold actually... but the above batman figure as a stick??... that can't be very comfy, lol..
Also... Batman must be gay as he seem to have the joystick up his but replacing it. |

Yeah I remmeber those. I remember thinking they looked like theyd last about 5 mins as well as being uncomfortable.
I had a stick called the moonraker and you had to actually plug the stick into the base. Halfway through a game the stick would just come unattached and ruin your game. What a pile o crap that was. |

s2325, those joysticks looked suspiciously mundane in comparison. Those handheld sticks are crap, but I wouldn't mind trying one like the last one (yeah... like suction cups ever work...)

Didn't Cheetah also release 'The Bug'? A little black stick with big firebuttons for 'eyes'? I always thought that looked shit, but apparently people seemed to like them in magazines...
I was never too sure about the Konix speedking either. I always stuck to my Cheetah 125+, Competition Pro or Zipstik |

Tac-II, a Nintendo style gamepad or a hacked gamepad with a JK arcade panel (with blade switch buttons) attached to it is teh shit. (I plan to build one of the latter to play MAME and WinUAE with.)

Has anyone seen this Amiga controller? I cant call it a stick as it hasn't got one. It has Warp I on the side and is entirely touch pad driven.

I think it's good for space shooters but not for platform games.

I had a special kind of joystick that was basically a 8 inch high sculpture of one of the Alien Drones from the 1986 James Cameron film "Aliens", complete with head and all down to the waist. It was awkward to handle and didn't have that nice crisp microswitch instant feedback that Competition Pros were known for.
However, it had one specific use: It was the only joystick with which I managed to beat the wall-climbing scene towards the end of "Alcatraz" (Hostage 2). You had to wiggle the joystick back and force as fast as possible, and for some reason this was only possible with this particular stick! Even now I can vividly remember the look on my brother'S face when he saw me wigggle the joystick back and forth at lightspeed (ok, now that just sounds wrong...) |

I also have bought Alien joy recently. I like it, although it is almost useless and I dont even know if it works.

Yep, that's exactly the one I had... Or still have, maybe it's lying around in the basement somewhere
Hard to believe someone else actually had the same thing.. I think I bought it on a flea market almost 20 years ago |

That last one is the joystick that was bundled with copies of Turrican II in Germany, though it existed in its own right before then. Very hard to come by these days.
