Nitro ST - Amiga port possible?
Regarding the latest Lemon / EAB round in gaming compo I came across discussion about Nitro. The game is a port from Atari ST, but very strange. levels are different and some important features missing - pedestrians, crossing npc cars (and trucks!).
Would it be possible to do a proper port, playable in a good speed on lets say accelerated A1200? |

Never knew this and played Nitro the other day! Guessing it was more of design decision then anything else as the Amiga version seems more polished?

Yes but maybe not for the better with all those extra things in the way?

Seems like the ST version is designed around the fact that the ST can't easily scroll left to right. They reworked the whole game to scroll up and down only.

Yes, I think so. And because they differ so much, it would be interesting to have both versions for Amiga.

I remember noticing back in the day after I bought a boxed copy of Nitro, read over the manual, and then played it quite a lot that there were no pedestrians as talked about in the manual. I wrote to Psygnosis to ask about it and they confirmed that the Amiga version did not have pedestrians and the manual was in error. Had no idea it was an ST port and that the ST port had all of those things in it. I still thought Nitro was a pretty fun game and me and my friends played quite a bit of it.

Just checked out a youtube video of the ST version. They did put some effort into the Amiga port (in-game music, maps rewritten to support multidirectional scrolling).
Gameplay wise the only thing I saw there that I wished the Amiga version had was the 3rd party traffic. |

I remember playing and LOVING Nitro on the ST. Then I got the Amiga version and it felt unfinished by comparison. No idea if that's fair or not, especially given the mention of the ST's scrolling limitations, but I just remember the ST version being 100 times more FUN.
And the Amiga version being... boring by comparison. |
