lol, they even charge for downloading WinUAE! .

http://free-game-downloads.mosw.com/..._s/winuae.html

As they blame the need for charging for keeping the servers up, is this still legal?

When you start making a profit from copyright violations, you are in not just illegal, but criminal waters. Soon, in the UK, such violations carry a MINIMUM of 10 years in prison.

To put that into context, a murderer was sentenced to 6 years last week. Crazy I know.

It is. By the way, suckers who pay kinda deserve it.
Or, looking at it on the good side, let's say every game is worth the price you're ready to pay

I bet the copyright holders of these games would be very interested that someone is charging for the games. If their also charging for you to download the roms 1.3, 2.0 etc... this is also illegal as their copyrighted and I think Cloanto own the copyright.

Selling WinUAE is 100% legal. Check GPL license for more information.

(of course selling unlicensed Kickstart ROM images etc isn't legal but it has nothing to do with WinUAE)

Dunno, but they seem to have taken the Kickstart ROMs offline, and are referring to Cloantos page regarding purchase.

I'd be one of those suckers.

$4 got me access to as many downloads from there as I wanted (although I only wanted two), and the guy who runs it seems very helpful. When I emailed with a problem, he straight away sent back a long list of instructions, and promptly extended my download period from 1 to 4 days.

As I hadn't been able to find adf versions of Hunter or Lords of Time before, I was more than happy to spend the teeny amount of cash. Seems a small price to pay to finally play those again; if I had more geekpower, I could have transferred them from my original Amiga disks, but that is way beyond me.

Of course, charging for free stuff like WinUAE is a more serious issue, although like I mentioned, that fee gets you access to all the content on that site, not just one file.

It still not legal to sell the games or winuae, and if there is a game you want, just post in the req.game forum and someone might upload it for you.... that way we help each other to spread the games without lame sites making money on it.
