Me found that there are moments using the whdload version where it stops / locks up. normally happen when your driving on two wheels and either crash into the barrels standing on where the water, the ground & water meet

For me the game freezes every time I crash into anything at all. Also it seems to run too fast, even emulating CE a500 speed with nocache?
Anybody else using whdload version?
Under winUAE?

The freeze bug came up for a few guys last time too, including me, on ADF and Whdload. The best setup I have found is to run the Whdload version with this:

Ks2.04, A500 000 7mhz (cycle exact),1MB chip, 2MB Fast

That cuts down the crash element somewhat.

Secondly, I have noticed the speed is faster (winuae 2.7.0) than normal with the latest WinUAE. Try 2.01 or an older version as every version of WinUAE runs at a slightly different speed.

edit: just tried the latest winuae 2.8.0 released yesterday. The speed of the 000 has improved and is more like the real speed, but somehow 2.0.1 still feels 'more right' and smoother.

Thanks lifeschool

I should mention that codetapper is working on a new slave to tackle the speed issue since it's present on real amiga to.

Toni says the freezing is most likely cause to an audio hack on 020+ that will be disabled (fixed) in next release

I found the freeze happens also on real 030, also when I hit something. I think I'll follow lifeschool's recommendations for this one.

@leathered
I thought it only happens on winuae
Codetapper sez his 030/50 works fine.
What are your specs?
I can always reproduce the freeze by selecting offroad track and crashing into the first rocks, is it the same for you?

No Lemon thread link?

I will upload my scores once I have done all of the tracks (I plan to do 1 track a day).

Well, I couldn't replicate the freeze at all just now with a quick try.

It happened my first go - I was figuring out the controls (not hard I know!) and hit something close to the start; I think it was a lamp post actually. At the same time I changed gear and the game froze. It was probably a co-incidence, and I may have been doing something beforehand so perhaps the memory wasn't 'clean'.

If it happens again I'll write up what happened here. I'm glad you questioned that, I was just thinking I'd hate to be playing and then lose all that effort, but it looks like I've got a reliable platform to play on. Cheers!

The freeze bug is NOTHING TO DO WITH WINUAE, the speed issues are winuae. No, the bug is present on ADF and Whdload on real and fake hardware. That means the ADF on which the whd install is based on also had this bug.

I found kickstart 2.04 seemed to fix it, so I would conclude 3.0/3.1 roms are the issue with the original CRACK.

Lifeschool I hear you m8 but it was much worse on winuae than real amiga. It only occasionally freezes on amiga while winuae would freeze every single time.

Toni just patched uae and it's working now as it should, ie. WHD version is now playable on winuae

Speed issues are not just winuae, there's at least one other bug report of speed problem on a1200. Codetapper is working on a fix.. a fps lock.
I'm guessing speed changes on winuae versions are due to recent cycle-exact improvements.

Yeah, buggy Buggy Boy. I tried it on the latest winuae 2.8.0 but I found it is slightly smoother on version 2.0.1, due to cycle exact tweeks plus the instability of the FPS (which Codetapper is working on). I think there are internal cpu timing issues which need to be sorted out before the crashes stop, but I'm no coder of course so what would I know. lol

I just scored 101k on Offroad - not a patch Capehorns record of 107k but I'm very happy with it.

Bah! My best so far is just under 96K, but I haven't been going for any of the hidden footballs yet. I have been meaning to look at the old EAB/Lemon thread with the list of their locations.

On the Offroad course I was talking about, there is only one hidden football on the bridge on stage 5. Thats it.

Even though I think I found all the footballs I'm still wondering whether I actually did, especially on sections with only one, and even though I crashed into every boulder to check those years ago (mainly using the right mouse buttom quit method).

The videos are only of help to locate those hidden footballs; as the flags will be random during play and so the route the player takes depends on the flags and other random factors. Sometimes I ignore gates completely if it means collecting the last few flags for a bonus.

But just to mention this to get it on the table. As Capehorn mentioned the last time we played this, it is possible to set up a perfect combination of flag colours before the start of the race by pressing the right mouse button when those colours come up in the previous race. This then fixes that order for the next race and helps the player get the first flag bonus before the level has really started. But again, after that the flags are random so its only an aid for starting and I personally dont choose to use it.
