My mum threw out my vast collection of Amiga magzines. This included virtually all issues of Amiga Format, Amiga Shopper & Amiga Power. Plus most CU Amiga. And some of The One, AUI, Zero and a few others.
Cheers mum However....... Has anybody ever tried asking the publishers of these extinct magazine for their original files ? I cannot see them having any commerical value and if they were donated to us I would have no problems putting them on a site with banners & adverts for their current mags everywhere. I know Future Publishing used to use Quark Express from Day 1 and would be suprised if they didn't have all their old Quark files archived somewhere. Maybe a polite letter would be in order - but the problem is Future is a big plc now so only care about their share price. I suppose it is worth it, think of the goodwill it would generate, or maybe we could blackmail them and state that we'll start a petititon and if they give us the files we'll all subscribe to PC Format for a year or something ! Maybe someone on here used to work fo Future ? Maybe someone on here knows someone who used to work there ? If one of you guys could scan a old & a recent Amiga Format/Amiga Shopper magazine with all the contact names of people there we can try to track them down. There's all the other mags/companies too (e.g. EMAP) but just having Amiga Format, Amiga Shopper & Amiga Power would be good enough for me ![]() The freelancers (e.g. Wavey Davey) probably still have their old files. |

I've still got mine too, but it takes up a lot of space!
Amiga mags: Complete collections of Amiga Power and Amiga Active Most Amiga Format, many CU Amiga, lots of Amiga Shopper, Amiga Computing Some Amiga Action, AUI PC: Lots of PC Format, PC Gamer, PC Zone Other: Lots of Edge, some Crash, Games X, Movies: All Total Film and most Empire It might be worth emailing Future Publishing, or trying to scan the mags ourselves. The only problem is that mags like Amiga Power are bigger than my scanner... |

![]() Your magazines cannot be in 100% perfect condition unless you sealed them on day of purchase and have never read them. And despite how well you protect them they will not last forever. In 200 years time when you're long gone do you think your magazines will still be there ? What I am suggesting is getting the original Quark files. Producing some PDF's out of them, and maybe some HTML. But the key thing is to keep the original Quark files as they will remain intact forever due to the fact that they are digital. For these reasons I suggest anyone else thinking the same should still vote. |

My enemy, nee buddy Twist will know about this: I come home one day and my father threw out my entire collection of "Famous Monsters of Filmland". He encourages me to read about history and World war 2 etc. Never looked back

Yes, the Quark documents would be nice! I make PDF's from Quark files every day...they are simply the most perfect representation of the page you can have. And you can even use the PDF for future output to press (they are starting to replace sending collected output Quark files when sent to press lately). As long as you have the same fonts installed. But just for viewing, it's all stored in one tidy, portable file. PDF's RULE!

Fangoria came out in '80, i think Saturn 9 or Flash Gordon was on the cover. Starlog was cool, too. I loved Fangoria's coverge of that Italian movie, "Zombie".

Most of my mags were lost when my dad died. I thought I got almost everything packed down to move it back to my mother's. Seems one of the boxes got misdirected and ended up in my granny's barn. I just found out that's where they were after getting hold of the boxes after she died. Having been standing around in a barn the mags were no good though, humidity had ruined them

If civilisation gets wiped out and starts again eventually someone will reinvent the Amiga. Wouldn't it be nice if some archeologists found a 10,000,000 year old Amiga TOSEC CD Collection & all Amiga magazines on a CD too ! ![]() ![]() |

What someone should do is put every issue of every magazine ever made online.

PDFs rule for one more reason: they are SEARCHABLE. And online search engines like Google already search inside PDFs!!
This is one great idea Jim. I'd like to have the whole The One collection in PDF format ![]() |
