Thank you but more questions!
Thanks to everyone with there help on my previous questions and to Chris for offering to take a look at my Amiga!
A few more questions if that's ok? On the main page, what does "prb" stand for? I presume "req" is request? What are "ADF" files? What is "WinUAE" for? What is "WHD"? Are there any other shortened names I should know of? Sorry to ask but as I say, if you don't ask you don't learn! The more I understand things the more I can help, hopefully! |

prb=Problem
ADF=Amiga Disk File, basically images of amiga floppy disks. WinUAE, Windows port of UAE which is an amiga emulator, allowing you to use amiga programs on your computer. Check out http://www.winuae.net WHD, a wonderful project that allows amiga games (and other stuff) to be installed to HD. Including games that were never meant to be installable from hd, and patching bugs and making sure it works on a variety of amiga configurations as well. Check out http://www.whdload.de And always make sure you read the FAQ which i'm sure will answer lots of other questions you may have. edit: beaten by cody but my reply is better |

LOL, thanks both. Which is the best version of WinUAE to work with Windows XP Home? After installing, do I just play straight from the Amiga disks on my PC?

Hey bluebrummie,
The best version of WinUAE to use on your PC is the latest one i.e. 1.2. As Belgarath mentioned, get it from http://www.winuae.net/. This is Toni Wilen's awesome baby After installing you will need to download .adf files. Try http://www.planetemu.net/ |

Ok more questions? Can a USB printer, joypad etc. be converted to work on an Amiga? Are there any leads etc to buy? Is it possible to link more than 1 Amiga to my Commodore monitor e.g. via switcher box or similar?

it is possible to run 2 amiga's off 1 monitor but not at sametime, would take a fancy bit of electrical work building the switcher, but i cant see why it cant be possible
basicly it would just require you to build a switch where you can plug monitor lead into one end and the switch then splits off into 2 leads and into your Amigas, maybe you could reverse engineer using some old ports and a Amiga Gameport Switcher into a monitor switcher shouldnt be too hard if your know electronics or know a electrician or am i just going |

if you network your Amiga to your PC using the PCMCIA network kit you can get access to most devices plugged into your PC e.g printer,scanner,internet, but i'm working from advertisement message on the pcmcia network kit and not from experience.
pretty sure you can manipulate things plugged into your PC to work on your Amiga obviously if there networked together but best bet is to ask the question about USB printers and Joysticks in prb.hardware forum. Anticipation of next question you can use PC monitors on the Amiga this might eliminate the need for that switcher, however not sure how reliable but here is the information http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Amiga-Video-Ad...QQcmdZViewItem |

Keep in mind that those SVGA converters will only work for specific video modes, ie modes that are 30kHz or higher... That's fine for Workbench, but most games use 15kHz video modes, which will not work on most VGA monitors. Unless you know you have a monitor that can handle a 15kHz signal (they are rare), or unless you only ever use your Amiga for Workbench stuff, then I think you'll be disappointed with those cheap converters.
