500 plus battery replacement
Having just saved the 500 plus from the dreaded burst battery.. Is it reasonable to fit one of the 3.2v coin battery & holders in its place. 3032 type.
If so, does anyone know the battery life/ amiga drain current with one of these .. and should the charging circuit be disabled so as not burst the coins types?? just wondering before I jump in . Or I've a 3 cell 3.6v 300mah nicad pack from a Mobile ?? that should last a while . Chris |

All my machines have a cordless phone battery attached. they seem to work well wnd it allows me to get the battery away from the motherboard.

I'd use coin type batteries (with diode if needed), to be safe.
if they are not rechargable (and it seems 3032 isn't), you should connect the diode. btw, better stick with 'standard' 2032 size |

iirc, its on plus side of battery, to prevent current from recharging. here are details:
http://aminet.net/search?query=lithbatt anode (+) should be connected to battery + cathode (-) should be on motherboard + but check with aminet. I usually use ordinary 1n484 diode, but they say "Schottky diode" is better. since speed is irrelevant and power too, you can probably use any Schottky. |

Is replacing the battery a must? Im just a little concerned now, mine all looks fine in my 500+ but I dont want to risk anything.
What does the battery do, do I just remove it, replace it, leave it alone? Im confused lol |

Afaik, it is only a matter of time before it starts to leak. Unless you want to keep the time stored, you don't really need a battery in there, in your position I'd get rid of it.

Best to make sure ... as said before you can leave it out ..
But be careful when removing it .. you can do just as much damage if not un soldered ..carefully .. best to snip off the legs first .. and see my other questions on this. ( if not already) http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=57846 clean up and neutralise any leakage. C |
