Amiga's connected to LCD TV using SCART... possible?

Hi,

If I pick up an LCD TV with a SCART socket, would I be able to connect my Amiga to it through the RGB socket using a RGB/SCART cable without the use of a ScanDoubler / FlickerFixer?

Thanks,

Mark

Yes, we have an A1200T here that has the Voodoo card connected to LCD's RGB socket and video port connected to SCART connector on TV.

Would what Ive suggested work for a Standard A1200D or do I have to buy a CRT with SCART?

It would work with a standard A1200 if you find an LCD TV equipped with Scart.

be careful most of cheapo lcd upscan rgb converter are really bad (delays introduced, intense pixellisation in low res mode...) you may want to perform some tests before going this way...i was quite disappointed with my samsung scart input so i had to buy an independant adapter to plug it to the vga port....

I'll second pbareges advice on testing before you buy, as there seems to be a wide range of opinion on what is "acceptable" quality from an Amiga->SCART->LCD setup. I have an A1200's native output connected to a Samsung SM225MD's SCART input and I find it perfectly acceptable for gaming use, but others will argue the quality is bad and it's unusable.

LCDs are shit for old computers because their pixels don't exactly match the Amiga's or other homecomputer's pixels.
It is much better with old tube TVs ! The tube's pixel frame is not that exact like a LCD's one, so the picture looks better.

Also, generally, I have read some test where LCD TVs were compared to modern tube TVs and the tube TVs still were a lot better in picture quality ! I don't understand the hype for LCDs unless you want a really big LCD with 30" or something or need a flat TV because of space problems ?!

LCD is indeed crap and with crt no longer being made by decent brands, you're stuffed if you want a nice new display for the Amiga.I don't suppose it's possible to buy new Amiga monitors from some place is it?

Posted via Mobile Devicei agree that native resolution is a problem with all digital display...nonetheless, lcd/plasma screens have a great advantage over crt : contrast...if you can get a big one and watch it from a reasonable distance the overall rendering is much better (in hd of course) than with regular crt tv...but you're right that for computer use (right in front of the screen) if you feed a resolution differebt from lcd native one, crt are much better!

In my opinion a widescreen LCD is great for Amiga use. I use a 100hz Panasonic 32".
