Super Hang-On (Amiga) - Pretty Damn Good IMO.
I dunno about anyone else but I actually really liked Super Hang-On on the Amiga, played it loads of times back in the day and still load it up from time to time, those engine and skid noises are so cool,...better than the arcade IMO (sound fx that is).
I felt it was about time I included it in my "Let's Play" section,...where I place good games unlike SGT videos. I hope at least some of you enjoy this little video along with my thoughts Super Hang-On Amiga Review: [ Show youtube player ] Zeus. Last edited by ZEUSDAZ; 02 July 2022 at 00:54. |

It's a little sparse to look at. But it has a good sense of speed at least.

Looks good, don't think I've ever played the Amiga version. I was playing the original on Saturday, better with handlebars etc

Played it a lot on my Amiga back in the day. Nowadays I prefer the arcade version for obvious reasons, but it was a very good port back then.

This game is shit. Good shit. Really REALLY good shit! I used to play it for hours and still want to have just one more go. If I was only allowed one driving game, this would be it.
The sound of the engine as it winds up to full pitch is amazing, giving a real sense of speed. The music is also excellent, with upbeat tunes that keep the blood pumping without being obtrusive. The graphics are crisp and clear with nice bright colors, animation is smooth, and trackside objects are just 'sparse' enough to avoid clutter. Playability is also just right - easy enough for an unskilled gamer like me to get into, hard enough that you always feel you can beat it with just a little more practice. I haven't played the ST or Megadrive versions, but I can well believe they might be a bit lacking compared to the Amiga. It's games like this that remind us why we choose to waste our time on the Amiga, rather than some shitty game console or lesser home computer. |

TRIVIA: Coder ZZKJ was part of the original team contracted by Electric Dreams/Activision in 1987 to produce the Z80 conversions (Spectrum, Amstrad) of SUPER HANG-ON. For his efforts upon their completion, he was commissioned as the sole coder to undertake the Atari ST conversion. Although not asked to code an Amiga conversion, he reportedly took it upon himself to produce one anyway as a means to hone his 68K coding skills on the increasingly popular 16-bit machine. The results were impressive, to say the least! After seeing ZZKJ's Amiga conversion in action, Software Studios – the in-house development team and product testing division of Electric Dreams/Activision UK – agreed to commission better graphics and sound for the purposes of releasing an optimised Amiga conversion of SUPER HANG-ON. The Amiga would belatedly see a coin-op conversion that played to the strengths of the up-and-coming 16-bit platform instead of another hackneyed run-of-the-mill Atari ST port, which all-too-frequently before had been propagated on expectant Amiga gaming enthusiasts. The bold, gutsy initiative shown by coder ZZKJ and the rare forward-thinking demonstrated by Software Studios/Activision (UK) together proved to be a master stroke and, unequivocally, culminated in the most impressive conversion of SUPER HANG-ON to grace any platform at that time. The Spectrum Version is really good too. What else did ZZKJ code?

Hang on isn't this game fatally flawed? Isn't there a bug in it stopping you from turning the fucking corners on the Amiga version?
I want to love this game as well but I thought this game was "broken" and was in dire need of a fix. May be I'm trippin balls here but I know the steering is shit. I believe there is another version knocking about that I got from somewhere what is supposed to have fixed this flaw. But when I tried it it was also shit. I want to love the game but it's unplayable imo. |

Never had any problems.
I do recommend using mouse controls instead of joystick with this game. |

I just know when I play the game you get to some corners and you may as well not be trying to turn no matter how slow you go.
And I definitely found a random version that was supposed to have fixed something like that, although I believe the sound was messed up in this version. I'll see if I still have it. |

There never was such a problem with Super Hang On.
As in all racing games you have to know the tracks. In addition with letting off the throttle you can get every corner. |
