There's also the last few good point&click adventures in the late 90's, before the long adventure drought (which seems to have gotten better in recent years), I'm thinking Blade Runner and The Longest Journey (can't think of any others right now, but there may be a few more).

One other important thing to note is that some old Windows games (like some old DOS games) have timing issues on too fast CPUs, independently of the Windows version used. Blade Runner (which I mentioned in my last post) for instance has some bits that don't work properly on CPUs above about 1 GHz (as far as I recall). Such problems can be subtle and barely noticeable, but also complete show stoppers. For example, in Blade Runner, there's a scene you can't survive when those problems occur. Sometimes there are patches, sometimes you need slowdown software.

Racing:
WipeOut XL - This fast racer is Fun, the powerfull the PC the faster it goes
On 2ghz it is ways too fast so use slowdown software
Beware of XP-Patches for this
I tried 3 of them and all were infected
GTR 1&2 - Simulation of the FIA GT League incl. 24hours in SPA
many mods like new cars and courses
Flatout 2 - I really love this - earn extra money for Destruction

Pinball(DosBox):
Pinball Dreams 2 - Like Mania on Amiga just with 4 new Tables
Pinball Illusion - Includes the Viking Table which is missing on Amiga

Pinball(Win32):
Timeshock - Only one table but it's much fun
Future Pinball - Free 3D-Pinball creator, there are many good tables for it

Other:
Red Faction - AFAIK the only FPS in which you can bomb buildings
and landscape away - much fun
X/X2/X3/Oolite - Elite like, much fun but very time consuming
buy your own Stations and in the X3 games
you can build whole komplexes with up to 500 Fabs

These 4 tables are not bad but for me it's not same quality as in Fantasies or first Dreams.

Try Pinball 4000 for MS-DOS. It have new tables in old style, I think they're better than in Pinball Mania.

Think I should mention that with ZDoom and especially ZDoomGL there are some really great modifications for Doom out there Still feels like Doom, but with scripted events and some other nifty extensions it's really worth a look
Some examples :
007: Licence to Spell DooM
The Darkest Hour
and not to forget
Massmouth 2

Expendable

You must add -nocputest on the command line to run it on modern CPUs.

There's also a PlayStation version. It should be a bit easier to find than the PC version.
Unless you visit Ebay and get lucky, Virus 2000 PC is for sale there right now.

Expendable is on the PSX too and was also released for the Dreamcast.

Both console versions are pretty good but I prefer the mouse/keyboard controls and of course the superior graphics of the PC versions. Expendable still looks almost as good as it did when it came out.

Yes, it's awesome game but I can not find something with similar atmosphere. There is no single boring moment. I think soundtrack is better than game.
