My drives need a doctor
I've got a couple of 3.5" ide drives that have become unusable on my amigas due to read errors, bad blocks etc.
Can anybody suggest a software solution to make these drives usable again? |

two.. Aligned properly ? three.. the above two options CANNOT be fixed by SOFTWARE. Unless you think an A500 is flash upgradable to AGA. (I wish). |

You could try prepping and formatting them again (or using something like Quaterback to repair them) but it sounds like you'd be better off buying a new one.

If your hard drives have "visible" bad sectors, it's game over. Just smash them to pieces to vent your fury.
Old drives can be had for almost nothing at your local recycling center. |

You can try various HDD tools for PC from HDD manufacturers (Seagate, Hitachi (ibm), WD,... also MHDD (russian program) and HDD regenerator could be of some help...

@Wisp, I would also try getting the diagnostic software/apps from the HDD manufacturers website and create the bootable floppy or CD from them.
You will have to install the drives into a PC so boot the disc and run the diags but this should tell you if the drives have gone over the deep end and really need to be recycled for scrap. Here in the states you can pick up older IDE HDD's from places like Junk Shops or even Goodwill stores if you find old 286/386/486 boxes ![]() |
