Video capture
I've found some of the demos/intros I made back in 1989-1992 online, which is a bit awesome (somebody thought it worth uploading them!) and I've watched them in WinUAE. Now, the problem is I want to output a few minutes of them running, with audio, to show some friends, in a modern video format. But I can't make the "output" feature work properly. It screws up aspect ratio compressing them to be half as wide as they should be. Messing around with the settings haven't helped much. And when messing around I have also managed to destroy the sound settings somehow. Sound worked in my early attempts, but is now laggy. The stuff I want to get a video output of isn't all that remarkable (This disc menu which I am still a little bit proud of, mainly: http://janeway.exotica.org.uk/release.php?id=17773). But I can't get a video output with the correct aspect ratio and sound. Can anybody help with what settings are needed and such?

It does not matter if sound has glitches during recording, recorded sound is still perfect.
But usual cause for really slow recording is reads from vram, unless you want to record video with all filter effects and everything you have enabled (if you have any), just tick "Capture before filtering" option. If you still get strange aspect ratio, make sure line mode matches resolution (Display panel) lores and no doubling or hires and doubling. Do not enable any vsync or other "special" modes. It won't make any better results, only much slower. |

"Line mode" in "displays" has these options: "Single, double, scanlines. double fields, double fields+". I ... have no idea how to match that to any kind of resolution... The only one that makes any kind of sense is "scanlines" and then only because of overscan in the OCS, which is irrelevant here.
I am getting this kind of unwanted compression: http://oi62.tinypic.com/21ay994.jpg No matter what I do. Sometimes even worse, with the video compressed to the top left 1/4 of the screen. Also the sound glitching is not during recording, but during playback. In short: I can't get WinUAE to record a video with proper sound OR video. I just wanted to make a decent video output of my old intro. Don't get me wrong, WinUAE is absolutely AMAZING and I use it a ton. But using it for basic video output is... hard. I can't manage it for even pretty basic stuff. |

Try with as simple as possible setup: select uncompressed video. Still corrupt graphics? (It looks like mismatched color depths, possibly even buggy video codec). Make also sure audio is in supported format (48000Hz, 2 channels)

Yes, I have done that and it is still the same. I have really no idea why, but when I play it on my screen using WinUAE it looks perfect. But I can't capture it on video. It immediatly turns iffy. I really don't understand why, I mean, you can record a perfectly fine copy of the output of the file I listed I assume. I've really tried tons of settings but nothing works... :/ And again, thank you for WinUAE.

I guess next step is: attach config and winuaelog.txt. (Paths panel, click logging checkbox, boot normally, attempt to record few seconds, paths panel, click save all)

Here you go:
Not really sure what you mean when you say 'there is apparantly no longer any good way to save a text file and attach it to posts you make'. Was there ever any other way? |
