Have listened to Stryx recently, all of the soundtrack as it has only one track. Really trippy, a bit like those experimental electronic bands of the 80s. Another good one I discovered thanks to forums like this one!

The intro was selling it as some kind of Obliterator 2 - minimal but gorgeous! Loved the use of color, how palette cycles are used and how it seems to come from a B movie...

Someone here said that Perihelion was his preferred Amiga music.
I have now had the opportunity to listen to this 38 track-long work (including sub tracks) from Zoltan Vegh.
Having never been able to go past the customisation screen, this was also a good exercise to imagine the story of this game.
What I retain is that this soundtrack manages to be as minimalist in places (the "dungeon" tracks) as it can be orchestral in others (the intro, end end some portions like the Tower). The sample quality is also surprisingly good sometimes. In the end, this is quite diverse and ambient at the same time, making one imagine a post-apocalyptic setting and what stories may come with it. It reminded me sometimes of the Baroque soundtrack (a PS1 / Saturn game from the late 90's) and the latter soundtrack is also very good.
All in all, a good pick in the rich Amiga music history!

Ahh, I just remembered another one. A shoot 'em up from Linel called Necronom had a really funky tune for level 1, you can just imagine Jason Lee doing his Mr Roboto dance in My Name is Earl to it. Title music is not bad but the level 1 music with cleaned up samples would be better than all those crappy £15 trance/dance compilations from Ministry of CRAP bullshit

I can tell that I have added 2 musics to my Amiga Top 5 (or 10) :
- Super Stardust AGA: incredible techno soundtrack, full of adrenaline for this classy asteroids clone. Risto Vuori should have made more of these on the machine. The only drawback is the Star Wars-like tunes that, even if they should have made an impression at the time, suffer from the limits of Paula for trying to be too orchestral.

- Death or Glory: a German tactical fantasy wargame that seems to look a bit like Der Langrisser. A few tunes but they are really great and very heroic fantasy-like.

My pick was Lemmings, just for the character and humour the variety of music injected into the game. Turrican 2 has some great tunes throughout. Hybris is a bit underappreciated too, really fits with the game. Ghouls N Ghosts should be on the list too.

Oddly, although The Settlers is one of my favourite games, I never cared for the music, the ambient sound effects you get with 2Mb or more impressed and engrossed me much more.

I see what you mean about Lemmings, I like the SID tunes in Law of the West for the same reason, they fit the mood of the game perfectly.

I don't know if I mentioned Sword of Sodan, that high-score/game over music is one of the most unique and atmospheric pieces of Amiga game music, totally lush instrument samples too.

I remember Utopia had some great tracks. During high school I had recorded the soundtrack on tape and used to listen to it with my walkman

I did that with quite a few Amiga soundtracks Having the stereo hooked up to your Amiga it was easy just to press record. Then take the tape and listen to it in your walkman. The MP3 player of the 80s & 90s

Within 1 monthly pay cheque of acquiring my A1000, second purchase was a lovely Pioneer Hi-fi for £400-450 or something All my real hardware gaming videos for my A1000 were made with that exact same hi-fi I bought in the mid-late 80s. You can really hear the quality of Agony's audio on such a set up, the Spectrum Analysers will also show you who's been skimping on instrument sample Khz

Too many good tunes there to pick from, but I settled with Pinball Illusions.

is this the same guy that did the music for that demo with the angel or choir sample? bit vague I know but some of the sounds he's using and that style is very familiar. It's a brilliant piece of music that stands out from the usual demo scene sound in a way Enigmah also does. I'm sure it must be pretty well known. Any ideas what it is I'm thinking of

I am surprised nobody mentioned Jurassic Park AGA here. Dean Evans did a few soundtracks but I personally love this one and it's definitely in my top 10 (maybe partly because it's one of the few AGA games I could buy for my 1200 bitd).
It's nothing like the movie's soundtrack but it really gives a good feel of being actually in this park and running for your life, especially in the Doom-like levels.
The game is not great, agreed, but it's worth being listened to, honestly.

Yeah Jurassic Park. It would not have been so bad if it didn't have so many mosquito enemies (small often grouped respawning bitches that quickly home in on you and terrorize you when you're stuck and lost). And the early sewer section somehow got lost in the mail.

Hi all!

I see that Turrican 2 is voted the best... After listening to it in various renditions, I still don't understand why... especially when compared to Agony or Shadow of the Beat. I must be missing something

Could someone explain me what's so great about Turrican 2 soundtrack?

Cheers!

1. Turrican 2. The tunes, the quality of the music composition, the samples which are top notch, the ambience given to the game's levels, etc...

2. Bionic Commando (Tim Follin at its best)

3. Battle Squadron

4. ...
