Parasol Stars cheatmode/trainer not working?

I am using the latest version (1.5) of the Parasol Stars slave. According to the Readme text, setting CUSTOM1=2 enables the cheatmode. When I launch the game, the trainer option is ticked:



However, it doesn't seem to do anything. Lives are lost as always, and it's game over when you lose them all.

Is there a key I'm supposed to press that is not mentioned?

I couldn't get it to work on 1.4 either, that's why I downloaded 1.5.

Cheatmode is made for keeping lives or also to turn off the time limit of the levels?
My wife's favourite game is this one and she's awesome in it. She was able to reach the final boss stage, while I get lost around the 3rd planet.... But eve she finds the game really tough so I'm curious if with some help she could get some chance to complete it? The game is really nasty sometimes when takes a life in a scenario which can't be avoided, so it causes tough frustration :P

When I read the readme, yes, it enables "cheatmode" but it does not say what that does. Does it just allow you to enable cheats in game with F* keys or does it actually enable the cheats automatically?

Sounds like it just enables the cheatmode to be used, but no description on actually enabling it in game...

Like the enable levelskip options. Does not say how to actually levelskip. Further down the changelog, it says F1 for levelskip but for version 1.5, it does not say.

Just a thought.

During play, type "A WORD" to activate the cheat mode.  Now use the
following keys:

              'M'____________________Get all three stars
              'T'__________________________End the stage
              'G'______Kill all the badies on the screen
              '1-7'___________________Skip to that stage
              'C'___________________________Extra credit
              'F1-F10'________________Skip to that level
              'D'____________________________________Die
              'B'___________________Skip to bonus screen
              'X'____________________Skip to extra level

NOTE:  You won't know the the cheat is active until you press one
of the above keys.  If "A WORD" doesn't work try "CYNIX".

On level 3, world 3 kill all the nasties who are in the box. Some
green pepper-like things should appear and if you collect them all
you'll be transported to the hidden world.

When you are in Ocean World on the fourth level, paralyse all the
nasties and get the purple heart in the top left corner (if there
is one).  Get all three green fruits, and you will be transported
to the last world.

Reading that, I suspect the "cheatmode" only makes it so you dont have to type the word to activate it in game and you should be able to just use the keys to do the cheats.

That was a very smart guess, and you were right! Thank you so much! I am playing it with my daughter, so the extra credits will certainly allow her to enjoy it more.
