WinFellow Wishlist

I think winfellow should have its own wishlist thread

First request...I would like a way to un-capture the mouse whilst running winfellow emulation. This is a very important feature for writing guides so I can create screen captures and write down the steps whilst emulation is running. Pressing F11 all the time is a problem/pain as the screen closes. It would be great if this worked in the same way as WinUAE and have the option to press the middle mouse to un-capture the mouse pointer.

WinFellow could do with IPF SPS image support (but I don’t think this will be possible without cycle-exact emulation.)

I know this has been asked for in the past, but I’ll post it anyway...AGA support

Paul,
do you use SnagIt? If not, I strongly recommend it!

WinFellow wishlist?

* Better GUI
* Nice configuration
* Save state
* Some sort of cheat utility (something WinUAE is missing too – I know about debugger, but that’s not something similar to what other emulators have)

I would stay away from AGA, as that might mess up rest of emulation.

erm, good plan with the wishlist, but Im afraid I dont think developments been made on any part of winfellow since maybe 2 years ago (!!!)

From what I remember, it was to be just only an A500 emulator- and there were no plans whatsoever for AGA. - the GUI is fine for what it is, but I'd say Savestate would be all-so-useful!

Could you be more specific? How do you like the WinUAE GUI? Is it lacking on configuration management? Please provide examples.

The last release has been 1.5 years ago. When having time for it, Petter and I work on WinFellow. Petter has been looking into converting the 68k code to C and I have converted WinFellow to work on SDL, instead of DirectX. Unfortenately, no new release is planned or can be expected in the near future.

Worfje,

better GUI imho means that you WinFellow will open in what tab you like it to open. (eg. Configuration tab, Disk drives - like today, Easy Config - nice feature to add)

Some settings like mobo ram should be renamed to slow (if that's what represents )

What are pro/cons of going toward SDL instead of DirectX?

Don't you mean Bogo Ram

I agree, that it should be renamed to Slow

Yes, you're right Sir Paul,

I meant bogus ram.

I do not yet fully understand the idea. It also seems to be you are giving two suggestions.

1. Should the configuration window always open on the tab you last selected before closing the configuration window?

2. Should we add a tab which should be named 'easy config' (with the appropriate functionality on the tab)?

Ok.

Pros:

- Fellow can be easily ported to Linux/MacOS
- single media software layer for all ports of Fellow (less work)
- programming delight for the Fellow developer

Cons:

- 50% performance hit in windowed screen modes (in current state)

P.S.: in one of my previous message a stated '68k to C', but this should have been 'x86 to C'

For the tabs, give me couple days and I'll write the idea completely. (have to check current tab and how useful it is)

For the last opened tab, I would say option to have one of them to be default would work too. (don't have to memorize which one was last time opened)

I would worry about performance as most of Fellow users are on low spec computers. I can say that I don't care about portability, but I'm sure you guys have reasons to port the emulator. (which usually means more work)

How hard is to understan WinFellow source code? I had some C++ classes and I don't have any expirance with emulators. Is it hard to learn?

Thanks for answers!

I'm looking forward to it.

Ok, I'll keep it in mind.

I'm very aware of the fact that one of the strongpoints of WinFellow is performance. The current 50% performance hit with SDL in windowed mode is unacceptable for Windows users. For Linux users, there is no DirectX and I don't know how performance will be on Linux. There is hope for SDL, since fullscreen mode shows equal performance.

That's a difficult question. Are you experienced with programming C? The best way is to download the source and look into it.

According to Anubis, save state is a good idea.

Just a thought - could the FAME/C 68000 emulator help you with converting to C? UAE4ALL is using this with great success

Incidentally, WinFellow works pretty well on a Sony PCG-U3 which has a 933MHz transmeta chip in it.

WinFellow hasn't been updated since 2005 and Worfje hasn't logged in for three months so I think you can consider WinFellow officially dead

Its a shame tho. i remember a time where WinFellow was more stable then WinUAE years ago. Winfellow is not a bad emulator at all its just that like you said it hasnt been updated anymore.

.. still the best option for low specced PCs too :>

@P-J, I wouldnt say its OFFICIALLY dead, as Mr Worfje-san hasn't said its dead... (so .. unofficially dead!)
I believe he wants to carry on with projects such as these, but as it is at the moment, he simply can't put in the time.

...pants

seeing how much WinUAE has progressed, I don't see a point for WinFellow any more (and probably Worfje noticed the same at some point)
